If you believe the rumors from the off-season, then the Mavs called about Paul, who didn't want to come here, apparently. And, they DID offer the MLE to Crowder. In fact, there was talk that they offered to sign and trade for him to pay him more than the MLE. He chose PHX over Dallas.
I agree about Barea, especially in hindsight.
