We know there was some supposed interest back in the 2019 offseason. Horford off the bench would be what is probably his best role, and his impact on winning is well documented.
But the real prize for me in any Al Horford trade, would be to try and snag Lugentz Dort.
Johnson+Richardson+Green+2027 FRP is what I was thinking for Horford+Dort. Seems like a lot, but Dort is one of, if not the, best perimeter defender in the league. His scoring is volatile, but he's basically a better version of Richardson at this point AND Al fixes our big man rotation.
After that trade I'd go and dangle WCS or Powell to a team seriously in need of depth there, like TOR or Nets and try and snag a pick from them.
The problem is that Horford isn't a great rebounder either and that trade seems awfully expensive. On the plus side the defense would improve and Horford isn't going to get bodied down low like the rest of the rotation. I don't hate the idea but I hate the price tag you've purposed and I'm not sure the improved defense is going to offset the continuation of getting smashed on the boards. I'm not sure anyone would give up an asset for Powell. You might be able to get a 2nd for WCS. The problem with with giving up a future FRP is you are taking yourself out of contention for any superstar that might become available.
I've also been thinking that since this team isn't a championship hopeful, maybe it's time to take a step backward and use some of our expiring contracts to take on a bad salary and capture some young players and/or draft assets. Anyone interested in Kevin Love?
