Still don't think the MBT will spent the bucks to resign Brunson when they have Terry on a similar cheep contract.

If they view him as ONLY a backup PG, playing exclusively behind their franchise player, then probably not. 

But, many people here believe he's on his way to becoming a great 3rd guard who can ALSO play significant minutes WITH Luka, and possibly even reach the point where he's the 2nd guard on the team, closing most games. There are signs that the Mavs are starting to wonder that, too, though we don't know what they think for sure.

If they DO like him for a role like that, then the mission becomes finding the most cost-effective way to keep him long term, which is where @"DanSchwartzgan"'s great info comes into play.
