One thing that might help us is Atlanta is past the stage of needing draft compensation.
What timing is best for Atlanta? Well, they can certainly get value in the summer (like Sacramento almost did with Bogdanovic).
Everything was in place seemingly except a desire to be here on C. Woods' part. Not sure how Collins sees himself.
As far as where Collins head is, I think it depends on who is willing to step up with the max. He has already shown his confidence by betting on himself and declining a reported $90 mil. contract and he has done nothing but increase his value. By the way, he bet on himself after a PED suspension. I don’t know how many teams will pay the max but my gut is the max is necessary to get in the discussion.
I think the pressure is on Atl., not Collins as they either pay him or he is gone (he will get a max offer). IF Atl. is not going to be able to re-sign, they can dream of the compensation they might get in the off-season but it may be hard to predict if they don’t know who will meet his contract desires. I think the question is how many teams can or are willing to sign him to the max.
