This is very level-headed and rational. I think it's probably the fastest way to get out of this funk, too. All in all, a fairly ideal approach, imo.
Having said that, if a difference maker is being sold as the deadline, I'm willing to deviate from the above wildly, as I'm sure the Mavs (and you) are.
The Mavs are buyers for the foreseeable future, not sellers, so it's really up to the sellers to determine what they want from this roster when crafting a deal. If a team is dangling something great, and through the course of discussions it's revealed that they like Brunson/Kleber, the Mavs can't really counter with "can I interest you in a Burke/Powell package?"
