Some fans overrate Burke based on a small sample of bubble games the same way people way overrate draft prospects who had a couple of high profile games in the NCAA Tournament and ignore the entire body of evidence. Why do 12 cherrypicked games define who is as a player instead of the entire 406 he has played in his career? If he's good at what he does, why can't he convince the entire NBA market of front offices to pay him more than $3.3 million as an unrestricted free agent? Why was he sitting there unemployed going into the bubble? Why did it take a WCS backing out of the bubble and Brunson's injury to put him on the Mavs radar in the first place, when they had previously had him in their building for half a season and then put no effort into retaining him?
He's not in a slump, this is who he is. His true shooting % for the season (.551) is better than his career number (.499). If anything, we should probably expect that he'll shoot worse as the season goes along. He's just a fringe NBA player. The kind of player who gets released in midseason (from a team desperate for guard play) and then is just hanging out looking for an employer going into the bubble.
