To clarify, hopefully without inserting myself in the other part of this conversation, I think $20 million is about the max I would feel good about.
But, it really is about the tax, and whether or not Cuban will ever pay it again. If they're not trading KP, then cap room is over for a while after this summer. At that point, I'm more than ok with Cuban wasting his money, though your follow up will undoubtedly be about lessening these guys' attractiveness as trades assets, and I do agree with that logic.
If THJ is back at $15 million per, I'll tattoo a picture of Cuban on my back. I'll celebrate Cuban Day every summer, for the rest of my life. I'll open a church called Sacred Cuban and become its first ordained minister.
If he's back at $20 million per, I'll nod with approval, and hope the move works out.
If he's back at $24 million per...that will sting a bit, and I'll be nervous. Still hopeful though, because I like the player.
Like you have said repeatedly, I hope the Mavs negotiate well.
