TRADE: James Johnson to DAL | Wright to DET | Ariza + JJ to OKC
#21
This is another home run move in my opinion.

As I've said, James Johnson is an NBA rotation player. He's not a towel waiver. He plays with reckless abandon so he can be injury prone but he'll play when he's healthy. He's a dog and Mavs fans will love him.

But maybe we're burying the lead here.

This move opens up Giannis money next year and the Bucks have had a real rocky start to FA.

Please, please, please let someone step to Luka.

Carlisle taps Bloodsport on the shoulder.  Bloodsport nods.  Moments later.

Nice job so far!  I'd still like to see WCS resurface (perhaps after the rest of MLE is done with his small bird upgrade).  Still plenty of nice pieces out there to choose from as well.  This team will be good this coming season, and then... it will be the Mavs time!  Nice patience and shrewd moves!

James Johnson actually played a decent amount of center for the TWolves last season.

Anyone who complains about this off season should be traded to another forum for someone who can see how much better the Mavs are now and how they are setup for future moves...
Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

I'd like to cross reference those posters who hate this move but were happy for the mid-season MKG signing.

How are those moves similar? MKG was a mid season pickup for the minimum. He played a similar role on the floor but that´s it.
I don´t dislike the idea of an enforcer. I just don´t like the idea of clearing capspace for next season instead of trying to upgrade even more.

We got both for nothing (I guess we still need to see if we sent a pick back, again predicting 2022 2nd but that's the price for Wright's 3rd year I'm okay with it).  Both fill a similar positional need but along with defense Johnson has an offensive game and adds more toughness to the team.

It's because James Johnson can score in double digits.

MKG fans aren't used to that production.

This is so exciting. Every move were doing is knocking it out the park. I think Johnson will play, especially with how Carlisle likes to tinker with line up during the regular season and go deep into the bench for rotations.

But they literally did both. They got rid of players who font work for one that will at the very least serve the purpose of being an enforcer(and more then that they needed bodies to play at 4/5 since KP and Powell won’t be starting the season healthy). Not sure why you’re saying this is anything but a win.

If we are somehow not the ones who gave up a pick this is a fantastic trade (it's still good even if it is our second.)

Just watched his T-Wolves highlight video. He may be old, but he's spry, and I saw a ton of skill I didn't expect to see on the offensive as well as the defensive end. He could play minutes at the three legitimately.

Isn’t he still a pretty good player? Like MLE-type of play if he was a FA? 6‘9, still athletic, skilled, okay shooter, pretty decent defender.

I like it. With Richardson, Johnson, DFS ans Kleber we suddenly have four proven 6‘7+ guys who play defense and aren’t non-shooters (+ the young guys Bey/Green on top of that).

I like this roster, more balanced than last year. Don’t care for the FA-pipedreams but moving on from Delon + Wright and turning tjem into immediate help in itself is a plus Imo.

One area we now have great redundancy is long, rangy, quick and physical wings. We basically have just one big (Boban) but the combined size of all our players outside of Terry and Brunson is pretty incredible. I feel like we are some kind of hybrid team with the 6 offensive specialists (Luka, KP, Hardaway, Terry, Burke, Boban) and 9 or 10 Rangy 2-way players who can all shoot. Not to mention KP’s defense and shot blocking to round it out.

So much of what a positive value Wright is Smile I was hoping for something better, but I guess ok. We cleared 2021 money and got a servicable player. We now have 13 roster spots taken (no Barea, no WCS).
