DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
I can't speak for anyone else, but I like this approach, and not getting Giannis won't make me question it in hindsight one bit.

What I'm sick of is watching Dirk's teams not be built properly to win and then going into every off season with the slim hope of turning old, overpaid player X into old overpaid player Z via trade. The trade is unlikely, and if successful, is probably not what you need, anyway. Dirk's entire career was like that. It SUCKED, and they only got one championship out of it. Dirk deserved so much more for what he gave this city, as did we, the fans.

I like OPTIONS. This off-season was the most asset poor I expect them to be for quite some time, thanks to the KP trade, and the fact that they found Luka a little too fast, and then the team got good a little too fast. Usually, a team in the mavs' position would have a few more busted lottery picks like DSJ laying around waiting to be dangled as assets.

But even in THIS situation, look at what Donnie pulled off! 3 really interesting rookies, 3 new usable players (that will address weakness of the team in a real, tangible way) and possibly more to come. And, they got off of one of their few recent mistakes??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I full on expected something like #18 going out in a Gallo sign and trade - that was my expectation level coming in. Would you have preferred that? OMG, this is so, so, so much better, imo.

I promise that if you all (mostly @"DanSchwartzman") stop saying "plan powder" you'll feel way better about it. This isn't the same as that. They have Luka and KP. Hell, just say they have Luka. That gives them DIRECTION. Every decision is informed by that, and so far they're making dope decisions.
