So you're taking the exact opposite tack as KL - the Mavs' hand being forced is a *good* thing.

Not really. You pay Hayward if you think he is good. If not, you don't get him. You can forget getting him for a pack of peanuts, because there will always be a couple of desperate teams looking for that final piece of the puzzle to push them to the top.

My point - when you find the piece of the puzzle you like, price is not really that important at this point.
