Now this could mean the Mavs simply have called CHI and said, "Hey new leadership are you listening to offers on LaVine? What would it take?"

It doesn't mean there is anything serious here.

It´s the THJ inquiry play.

Mavs: So about Lavine.
Bulls: Well we know his defense is awful and he´s not really available, but if you want to talk about Markkanen.
Mavs: Eh we don´t know. Euro big injury-prone, that´s really a massive gamble on our part.
Bulls: Okay we can probably do Lavine, Markkanen for Brunson, #18, #31 and future 1st, but you´d have to eat OPJ´s contract, too.
Mavs: You are tough negotiators. Let us think on it. We´d need THJ+Wright+Powell+Jackson to make the salaries work.
Bulls: What about Kleber and Curry?
Mavs: Nah they are trade ineligible under the THJ-Lee provision sub-section 2b of the last CBA.  
Bulls: Thank this cap legality is always so confusing for new GMs.
