So Usage Rate is just that a "rate"....meaning that it is about percentage of available plays "while the player is on the court." So MJ playing more minutes does NOT increase his usage rate.

Here is the definition of usage rate by the NBA:

Usage rate, a.k.a., usage percentage is an estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he was on the floor.


The key word is while he is on the floor. My point is we are using Luka at a rate equal to Jordan in fewer minutes played than Jordan. Which means Luka is having to do as much in less amount of time. We need Luka to be able to match Jordans usage rate and time on the court.

Remember the Bulls offense did not always run through Michael, it ran through Scottie. Michael could post up and not have to facilitate because he had Pippen.

Luka needs a Pippen, someone that can make him not have to do as much or work as hard.
