Just in: The Detroit Pistons are trading C/F Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies for three future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Pistons clear Stewart's salary and pick up assets while Grizzlies acquire a 25-year-old as a rugged frontcourt piece.

Pistons can get to nearly $21M in cap space just by renouncing their free agents, minus Jalen Duren.
There are other waivers and salary-shedding moves Detroit could do to get up over $30M in cap space.
They'd also have the $9.4M Room Exception to use if they go with cap space.

Grizzlies about to enter the grit and grind 2.0 era. Boozer/Edey/Stewart is by far the most physical PF/C rotation in the league. Pistons might save enough salary to resign Harris (depends on Duren's next contract).

Sure, as long as none of they catch strays when Morant and his crew don't open fire indiscriminately in the locker room.

Last thing I read suggested that they would have to attach picks to trade him. No one is willing to touch the combination of injuries and crazy.

Yeah, I mean Morant is crazy and starting to be injury prone, sure...but, at least he can't shoot and is starting to slow down.

Interesting to see what Memphis does next season.
Stewart is closer to a win now move than a tank move. If you're jettisoning Morant, I think MEM would be interested in trying to lose.
But maybe Cam is good enough that they can't just tank next year.

Maybe they can't unload Morant, also.

They essentially got the 3 2nd rounders back that they gave up to move up 4 spots to draft Okorie. I have to believe Detroit isn't done. They're clearing salary for Duren and Thompson extensions, and free agency that starts Tuesday.

I think Memphis is going to. E so tough to play against. Well run team too. Boozer is a winner and if healthy that front court is going to cause a ton of problems. They have a lot of moving parts on the roster but I think both them and Utah are probably better than Dallas as we stand now.
One thing that I heard is last year there were way too many teams over .500. With all the tanking teams that really impacted wins and losses. If tanking this next year is curtailed getting to mid 40 wins will not be as easy as previous years.

MEM still has to resolve the Ja issue before they can be good. They are still on the hook to him for 2 more seasons (including this one), and he's a net negative to a team. I suspect they would take any matching salary (1-2 years on the deals), even with bad players, if someone would offer it, just to get him out of their mix. But finding a taker is likely to be hard.
As bad as the Mavs need a PG, it doesn't work for DAL to do a deal like that. That's how upside down they are with him, and if they don't find a taker, they end up running in neutral 2 more seasons.
