BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading star forward Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale and Vince Williams Jr. to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang and three future first-round picks, sources tell ESPN.
Jake Fischer (@JakeLFischer)
The Utah Jazz are trading their most favorable 2027 first-round pick (Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah), the Lakers' 2027 first-round pick, and Phoenix's 2031 first-round pick to Memphis, source says, to pry Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Grizzlies.

Well, if nothing else, this is a good example of a team that found themselves fed up and unable to "trust the process." It doesn't always work, and that's a good thing to remember.

I am not convinced this is a smart move for Utah. Kessler-Markkanen-JJJ is not a great fit (all three want to be starters, but not all three can be). Both Markkanen and JJJ are PF - neither is a good center, imho. But it will be definitely very interesting to see, what additional moves they plan to make in next half a year.
Since they kept their 2026 pick, Utah will still want to remain bottom 8 or the pick goes to OKC.
Edit: if Utah is willing to try Markkanen-JJJ as PF and C, they would have some deadly shooting on all positions

The Grizzlies have also created a massive $28.8 trade exception in this deal -- the largest ever in the NBA, per @BobbyMarks42.

Utah will move Markkanen or JJJ, if necessary to get Dybantsa. Mavs are so f*****. Can´t believe there are people that think Flagg can do this without a 2nd young stud. Utah could roll with George, Dybantsa, Markkanen, JJJ/Kessler and Ace Bailey as a 6th man.
EDIT: And Memphis, arguably the best team finding value in the draft, has 13 first round picks over the next seven years.

I think Memphis did a great trade, since they decide for a rebuild. I think JJJ is not worth his salary and they got 3 FRP for him.

Yeah, I think Kessler is out of the picture after this trade. I agree Markannen and JJJ is an intriguing combo because both can stretch the floor.

This trade is also an example of why I don't want the Mavericks to trade any 1st rd picks right now. This is the level of player (borderline all star) that if one were to become available and fit next to Cooper Flagg, I want to have 3 1st rd picks in our arsenal to trade.

Fascinating how teams rise and fall so quickly.
A couple of years ago, Memphis seemed like they would be perennial contenders. But now? Relegated to being bad for a few years.
