Martin is cost controlled for the next 3.5 years. FGump yesterday said look for them to go after lower/mid salary guys.

Nah, "defense wins championships," remember? We're operating under late 90's - early 2000's mentality on this team.

Why did we throw in a pick also? I'm so fed up with Nico

Tbh, I don't hate this deal, in a vacuum. He's long, athletic, and a two-way player.
I just don't understand what even the plan is on offense at this point. I really don't.

It’s been kinda fascinating talking with teams about Caleb Martin’s four-year, $28 million deal. A lot of execs view that as negative future money. Dallas clearly likes the team control Martin’s contract brings, after they didn’t find an extension with Quentin Grimes this fall.

Grimes is quite a bit better. Both are redundant, Martin so much so that he shouldn’t even get regular minutes in the Mavs rotation. On the bright side, at least this way Nico is wasting Adelson money for more years. It’s a stupid trade. Nico is a fool. He got fleeced by a good GM again. Let’s get Lindsey back before it’s too late.

It’s already too late. And we are the ones giving up a pick? My word. What a fool.

When it rains it pours.
Makes no sense. Why are we adding draft capital for an inferior player? And GOOD draft capital at that.
GM’s smell blood in the water and are going to play Nico for the fool that he is. It’s like watching a drunk driver weave throughout traffic.

Not sure I agree with this. Grimes, defensively, hasn't been what I expected. Plus, I kind of think he should've viewed that extension offer as a lifeline back to a career. The fact that he didn't...I think we might be starting to catch a glimpse of why he's bounced around. He's obviously not at Christian Wood level, but when three teams in three years get rid of you, there's usually fire under that smoke.
This move, along with the Max Christie thing, leads me to believe they want LONG defenders on the court all the time and fwiw, I don't hate that part of this plan.

ISOs and post ups. Remember 2002 basketball? We’re running high post ups for AD and clear outs for Kyrie 48mins a game.
We’ll shoot 13 threes a game and lose by 35 each night.

I like Grimes more in a vacuum but I totally get this trade.
Caleb Martin has been through the playoff wars and performed on the big stage. He has played in 45 playoff games and shot 40% from three.
Caleb Martin is signed for the next 3.5 season. Grimes is a free agent.
Caleb Martin brings toughness that Nico seems to value. See PJ Washington, Gaffford, Naji Marshall, Morris brother, pursuing Bobby Portis.

I think they'll shoot more threes than that, but I doubt they'll be "good" threes, and I doubt many of them will go in.
Other than that, yeah, I'm with you.

I don't think they're done. They definitely need another player who can create offense.
The list of "who's expendable to be traded" is being modified as we go -- Christie made Grimes expendable, so Grimes could be traded for Martin, and Martin has now made _______ expendable. Martin is a SF.
I'm guessing Naji, and/or Klay, are possible trade chips we might see moved next. Their limit coming back would be a 24-25M player more or less if they package those guys together, as they will have to have some money to fill up empty roster slots. I would think Powell (4M) and perhaps Exum (3M) could be considered too.
Note: They will go over the tax line and use up most of their cushion under Apron 1 in this trade.

He really isn't a two way player. He is a 3&D player who takes less shots than Josh Green with a below average 3 point percentage, and he doesn't really bring anything else to the table on that side of the floor.
This trade was a disaster to begin with, but the fact that Nico threw in a second (like KP and Luka trades) is just a joke. This is a total embarrassment.

I don’t like watching Martin, but I’m just looking at data. The advanced stats say Grimes is better. My eyes do too. The Martin contract is “cost controlled” but still inflated and will be a drag. Martin’s not needed. I’d rather have just let Grimes walk than this. And adding a 2nd? That’s nuts to me.
