Can't wait to see which version of the team suits up against Houston tonight. I heard they just brought Cedric Ceballos out of retirement on a 10-day.

I saw Kyrie is not listed on the injury report and Derek Lively is listed as a game time decision. We might see a more real Mavericks lineup.

Lively!

Hardy looking good early

Dallas defense looked strong that quarter.

We suck now

Another phantom injury, this time to PJ? Some of these guys are just going to have to strap it up.

Our end of the rotation and not in the rotation guys are playing no where near well enough to win. The Rockets are one on one scorers that we can’t seem to defend. Hardy, Prosper and Marshall disappoint me the most. No 0-2 against the Rockets disappoints me the most.

This is a really frustrating loss.
Gafford played so bad tonight I questioned if he was intentionally throwing the game. Maxi is still a good defender, but his lack of offense is killing our spacing. PJ now being out for at least a week with this Naji suspension AND no Luka is a fucking killer. Hardy looks like he's lost confidence, which is crazy to me. OMax hasn't made any considerable progress so far. Finally Kyrie really has to be a bit more assertive. Take 40 shots if need be. I'd rather he shoot it than Dinwiddie every time.

The run of guys missing games is really bad in the NBA and now we are the very unfortunate team. We are getting a good look at some guys. They better pick it up soon or Nico will replace them.

Also Sengun gets an insane whistle. Every single thing goes in his favor.

Gafford is so fucking soft. Game turned when Sengun was scoring on him on every posession in the 2nd quarter.
Not just in this game, he gets bullied pretty often by actual NBA centers.
Wow...that was tough to watch. I don't even think the Rockets played good but they had no problem putting the Mavs down. Almost like they were playing the wizards. Where is the fight?
Gafford was horrible tonight. unplayable. The defense has been really bad lately. Like no resistance. That needs to change immediately. If you are a non star, you don't play D or make mistakes, you aren't getting minutes. Dinwiddie and Gafford were the two that stuck out, but they had a whole team join them. I like Klay, I really do. But do we really need to go into heat check mode when he makes an early three? Can we let the game come to him. And the turnovers...they continue. Just really bad TO from Klay. Give up free throws early is a killer. I can't remember them all in the first. But a few ticky tack lazy calls and Houston got into the penalty early. Just a killer. Kyrie needs to be better. Not good tonight. I know Lively is on a minute limit, but he had 3-4 really nice hook shots. Lets do that more often. Especially against a defender like Senguin. With a short handed team, can we see a game where he gets 15 shot attempts? I like his passing, but when you have the ball in the lane how about shooting it rather than passing it out to Maxi at the three point line. Hope PJ is ok. Tough part of the schedule, but Mavs have little room for error. They are not playing the right way to even give themselves a chance right now. Every good team is going to punish them if this is the defense they are going to play.

Some of it is lack of off season preparation. Some a disdain for the regular season—or load management in disguise. Some is just the normal amount of injury any team goes through.

The team fell asleep tonight and put out no effort in the second half. Naji throwing a closed fisted punch like a moron has caused all sorts of butterfly effects for this team and looks like the catalyst for a fairly lengthy losing streak. Closed fist? ? Idiotic. Does he not know the history of the NBA? You never, ever do that.

Strategically it was pretty dumb getting suspended like that, but I'm not going to be mad at Naji for acting like an enforcer when we need that kind of juice. The real issue is the health of the team overall. If we had Luka tonight, this was a win. If PJ doesn't get hurt, we probably look more competitive than we have been. Kyrie also deferred a lot which was pretty dumb. I hope Exum can come back because we've been getting a LOT of bad Dinwiddie recently. The counting stats have looked ok, but the actual game choices have been horrible.

Now they have 29-4 Cleveland coming in, winners of 8 straight Friday. No rest for the weary...

I've been sort of analyzing recent play by the Mavs. I've come up with a little theory. A big section of the Mavs backbone is missing! They are not playing with vigor and a touch of audacious joy...and they fold when the other team does play with it. At this point the coaches are NOT preparing the team. The team has to know they can win any game even without Luka. It's easy to beat an individual, or a team, if they don't think they can win. But I will be watching...unless I get the mysterious Mavs sickness again... |
