The lLakers have swooped in to top Memphis’ trade offer for Dorian Finney-Smith … with the Nets choosing three second-round picks from L.A. as the prime return for Finney-Smith rather than a heavily protected first-round pick from Memphis.

Not really sure how this moves the needle at all for the Lakers

They improved (got a solid rotation player) and saved money, using only 2nd rd picks as ammunition. It doesn't move the needle in terms of them being a contender but it's a great move.

Only thing I can think of is DFS is added 3 & D wing depth since Jerrod Vanderbilt is still out.. His injury must be serious because he hasn't played in over a year. Shake Milton just replaces Russell.and probably will split time at the point with Gabe Vincent.. Just speculation on my part.

I would start Finney Smith over Hachimura.
Hachimura is the forward version of THJ. He can give you major buckets but the rest of his game is awful.

I actually think the Lakers gave up too much for him, especially the picks. Memphis was giving up a 1st with protections I believe. Also, it wasn't revealed who the players were going back to the Nets. There was speculation it was Kennard and Konchar.

I would too. But I’m still just confused how this moves the needle for the Lakers.
Feels like they lost one of their expendable contracts for a bigger trade for a player that, while is good, isn’t carrying them at all.

I mean, we know as well as anyone that Dorian is a pro’s pro. He is durable, reliable, switchable on defense, spaces the floor. Literally every team can use a guy like him. At that cost there isn’t a huge downside. They aren’t contenders but it keeps Lebron the Diva happy and there is value in that alone.

The question is are the Lakers done or do they play around with those two future firsts? I think DFS probably takes them out of the running for Kuzma or Grant (if they ever had any interest). Would a guy like Anfernee Simons be a candidate? I think other teams could beat the Lakers offer, but that could be interesting. They don't have the assets for Fox and I doubt the Kings would ever trade him to LAL regardless.

Funny looking back at the Kyrie trade. Shortly after the trade there was talk the Nets would want two first round picks back for DFS. With Dinwiddie back on the mavs, the nets got a futur me first, some seconds, and an expiring DLo for Kyrie.
For the Mavs looking back there were reports Mavs held out in giving Josh Green on the deal. Look g back, it probably would have been better to keep DfS and move Green…if that was an option. Other $ would have to be included though

I don't think that was an option. If I remember correctly, DFS was a necessary part of the deal due to KD, who bailed soon after the trade.

Money wise I don't think it was possible back then to include Green in the deal and have it still work. Green was still on his rookie deal making 3mil and Kyrie was making 38mil.
