2024 Playoffs - 1st Round: Los Angeles Clippers - Dallas Mavericks
(04-22-2024, 01:59 PM)HoosierDaddyKid Wrote: A game two win would be nice, but it's not imperative. There are plenty of teams in playoff history that have lost the first two games on the road, and came back to tie or win the series. In fact it's almost expected. Mavs just have to take care of home.

Not when Kawhi returns for the third game. We won‘t win 4 out of 5 games against the Clippers at full strength.

Hard to watch this one but Taylor shows how Lue coached circles around Kidd in game 1.

Unfortunately, the Mavs got a friendly whistle in game one with a massive free throw disparity and still were blown out. That won’t happen again. Mavs will have to give everything they’ve got to get back in this series. It starts with the return of playoff Luka, but the key will probably be whether the centers win their matchup. That was incredibly surprising seeing Zubac destroy our centers. Needs to be the other way around. And one more thing. The Mavs need to speed this game up.

Is it fair to ask if Rick Carlisle had something to do with this loss?

His current team and his former team both lost in strikingly similar manners. Both had slow starts to the game, lacked playoff intensity, underestimated their opponents because they were each missing their best player, and ended up being down by similarly large double digit figures at half-time.

Half-time scores...

MIL vs IND: 69 - 42 (27 difference)
LAC vs DAL: 56 - 30 (26 difference)

It's almost like a ripple effect or "Rickle effect" that still sustains.

Heh, gotta tickle the Rickle fans. :p

P.J. Washington on the Game 2 win and what he learned from Game 1:

“Just how physical the game was. Obviously they punched us in the mouth coming in in Game 1. We just wanted to respond tonight and I feel like we set the tone defensively and with our aggression out there…I just love being physical. It’s all fun and games for me.”

The PJ-Kleber frontline duo has been great for the Mavs this season. +24.3 net rating in 428 regular season possessions.

They closed w/it tonight and were +16 in 13 minutes, including +9 the final 9.5 minutes. Gave them a 5-out offense + switch-all defense with tons of range.

You know, though, if his game plan is what finally got Luka to rise to the occasion defensively, it was a mistake.

When I watched it live, I thought it was a-holes, like he was calling the home crowd that.

There was a point in this game when Westbrook hit a 3 (in the 4th) and Luka went on a full fledged rant towards everyone on the court AND Jason Kidd and told them to quit f***** helping him defensively.

After that point he played ISO defense against Kawhi, PG, and Harden on MULTIPLE possessions with NO help and he stopped ALL of them.

While hitting a clutch 3.

Here's the clip of Luka Doncic telling the entire Mavs team AND Jason Kidd that he DOESN'T WANT HELP DEFENSIVELY.

They tried to double Paul George when Luka was playing good defense and it left Westbrook open for 3.

From this point on Luka Doncic clamped every single player that went at him on the defensive end and forced a miss every single time.

My GOAT doesn't need help defensively. Mavs in 6

Tim Hardaway Jr. (ankle) and O-Max Prosper (ankle) both out for Game 3. Will be re-evaluated in a couple days, per Jason Kidd. Daniel Gafford (back) is questionable.
