There's a version of this several day stay in LA that includes some productive team bonding, a really good practice and an impressive win against the back-to-back Clippers.

There's another version, one we've seen several times over the past few years, wherein the young Mavs, armed with free time in a cool city, party their balls off and get run out of the gym.

I'll hope for the former.

Big game for Holmes. He’s not going to get a better chance than this with Lively and Maxi unavailable

Must win game with the Clippers coming off 2nd night of B2B

Accurate. This is his shot.

Well, that accounts for a few hours of the past few days, I suppose.

Yep.  Powell makes sense to get the start, but there are a lot of minutes available for Holmes if he can handle it.

Think Powell will start? Interesting.

I sort of assumed Holmes would start and play Lively's minutes, leaving Powell's normal role intact. BUT, I suppose you're coming from the POV that Powell's normal role is now Holmes' normal role. It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

I’m thinking Powell makes more sense with the starting unit because he has more experience with that group and in the system in general, and because I think Holmes is a better fit with the undersized second unit

Holmes has some good qualities, but he’s just not the finisher Lively or Powell are in the pick and roll.

I think he’s got a little more left than I thought, defensively, so that’s good.

Clippers taking it in the paint as soon as Powell checks in.

Holmes couldn’t finish a lob Powell finishes but looks much better defensively.

I’ve liked Powell but I think it’s time for him to become emergency energy guy like Barea was at the end of his career.

Lively gets so much cred for his defense, and it’s great for a rookie, but his absence tonight is really acutely felt on offense, imo.

Luka looks terrible early except hitting a three in Zubacs face.

Luka now in the locker room. Fingers crossed his left hand isn’t fractured.

Luka’s getting his ass kicked during this stretch. Maybe that hand was bothering him a lot.

His finger/s were hurt, Kidd should have taken Luka out instead of Kyrie.. but his chart says Kyrie needs to sit.

Holmes had 3 contests, one was a block.
