Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms

I like this concept a lot. NY sends a couple of second rounders to Atlanta.

Similar option could be with Portland instead of Hawks.

Portland: Grimes, Fournier, Holmes, Mavs pick, assets from NY (a couple of seconds or protected FRP)
NY: THJ
Mavs: Grant

Mavs still have two picks in the summer plus all the young guys.

I would do either of those moves and be happy as a clam with the team.

Would be tough to see THJ go though, especially this year.

Possibilities for THJ. Teams that need shooting the most and want to compete:

Could use shooting, but nothing there to be done: Minny, Denver
1. Lakers. Problem is I don't want Hachimura or Russel as the matching salary and Lakers certainly wouldn't put their 2029 pick for THJ. Neither would they give Reaves. Is there a third team that would take Russel or Hachimura and has a better player for Mavs?
2. New Orleans. Their three point shooting problem is that 4 of their starters are not really 3 point shooters (Ingram, Zion, Valanciunas, Jones). That team is constructed so badly it will need some serious work, probably trading one of Ingram or Zion (I want neither). They can't trade Jones because he is their only defender. They can't trade JV, because they still need a starting centre (but their ideal centre would be a shooter). I just don't see a trade that would make sense.
3. Orlando. I could be convinced in WCj if they add a pick. I don't think WCj can play a PF next to Lively (didn't work with Vuc). Some third team possibilities with Fultz or Isaac expiring deals (and of course draft assets in both cases)
4. We covered NY

I like Grimes, but he sort of overlaps with Green and Exum. But, Fournier and Grimes (and hopefully another asset as THJ is the best player in the deal) would give us even more flexibility in the summer. And Fournier used to be in the THJ quality range before Thibs decided to not play him anymore.

But, as others mentioned, NY seems to be interested in Brown.

I agree about the overlap which is why I assumed that if that rumor was true, it probably would have involved Green.  Now you have that skill set locked up for the next couple years between Exum and Grimes for less than the price of Green by himself.

Interesting they listed Hardaway as a creator.  Wonder if Hardy has any interest to them if they just need some bench points.

Also, the other asset I would be asking for is Sims.  Would be a good long term backup to Lively and moves Powell to a break glass in case of emergency role (probably not this season but moving forward).

Another thing to think about, maybe Hardaway is used in a deal like this with the intention of Green being used in a way that nets us a PF.  Would really balance stuff out.

That is why I said it gives us plenty of options in the summer. We can easily trade any one of Green, Grimes or Exum and still have two good players on guard position.

I just don't see a big move the mavs at this trade deadline. They are being opportunistic as they should. The issue is if a player has good perceived value, the Mavs can get outbid. Even Siakam who was expiring and wasn't committing to a team garnered multiple first round picks. Mavs don't even have expirings. This offseason or during the season, Mavs can use the Pacers offer and be aggressive looking at these type of players. Heck, maybe Siakam doesn't love Indy to finish out the season.

So, I want to see if they can find a deal for Holmes. The Mavs have no use for him, but he won't have much value. Omahen mentioned the Rockets previously. That would be ideal, but I am not counting on that. Other than that, I don't know. I don't think they trade Grant Williams now, I don't think. It just sets a bad look. Indy traded Bruce Brown, but I think they would be reluctant to move Williams now. I think they would move him for DFS, but Brooklyn probably wants cheap assets and a pick.

I will be really interested to see where Brown winds up, if he goes anywhere.   I think he is a winning player and a lot of contenders would love to get him.  His salary may limit his options, but I could see him having a similar impact as Josh Hart did last year when he wound up with the Knicks.

Report about Grimes mentions (author opinion, not insider rumor), Curry could be used as matching contract

I can't imagine Curry plus 2nds would be enough, right?  Any chance Hardy + 2nds?  I like Grimes, but don't think I would pay a first.

Ya that's Dalton Trigg who, bless his heart, tries his best but boy are his trade proposals just as far from reality as possible.

He probably just looked for a matching salary.

Your proposal of Hardaway for Fournier/Grime/Sims makes way more sense.

I’d move any combination of Hardaway/Hardy/Kleber/Grant for PJ Washington.

Kyrie
Luka
Exum
PJ
Lively

plus whatever is left would still be quite the improvement.

Doesn’t look like anybody is happy with the situation in Charlotte.

If its just straight up for Timmy, it would be Fournier/Grimes.  Omahen suggested we should get an asset back for that, but honestly I think I would do it without getting an asset.  Timmy might be a better player than Grimes, but Grimes is way cheaper, way younger and I like the fit better.  On top of that, Fournier contract would be very handy.  We could let him walk and have room to sign DJJ (or maybe even somebody like Hartenstein), or (if the timing is right) and we need salary fodder for a big trade we can exercise the team option.

Brown said he was shocked at being traded after he was courted hard by Haliburton and other Pacers. But I've come to learn nothing shocks me when it comes to the NBA.

Assets and/or filler:

Lively (only for Claxton, if absolutely needed. Nets want 1st round picks, I think Lively counts as one as a rookie who is playing great)
Hardaway
G-Will
Holmes
Kleber (prefer to keep, but okay to deal)
O-Max (prefer to keep, but okay to deal)
Powell
Hardy
Morris
Curry

+

First Round pick
First Round pick swaps
Second Round picks
Cash

Anything gotten back from swapping Kyrie for Dejounte, if they go that route.

Nico's "Nike connections" and hopefully he has some good tapping up skills. I really don't care if Nico breaks all the rules, as long as he doesn't get caught and the Mavs get more talent that fits around Luka. I'm desperate. Desperate enough to want a Utah Mavericks merger to get a full and proper team. So tired of this half-a-team, half-a-GM, half-an-FO, half-an-owner state of being. Tongue

I’d say if we’re giving up Lively for Claxton, due to Claxton being an expiring the deal should be Lively and good filler for Claxton and Cam. Something like that.
Edit: either good filler or bad filler and our first.

Teams will always trade if they think its in their best interests. There isn't any loyalty and there never has been.

Except the loyalty shown to Dwight Powell.
