Trade & FA 2023-24: HOU Targeting Mikal Bridges again!| Mitchell is LAL #1 Target
(09-19-2023, 10:18 AM)Ghost of Podkolzin Wrote: IMO you only trade for KPJ to steal Eason.

Domestic abuse is a tricky subject.  You have situations like Kidd's where it doesn't repeat itself.  You have situations like Holmes' where it was bullshit.  I would say 99% of the time you have both people crazy, high, and/or drunk.  IMO generally there are no pure victims, no pure attackers.  Strangling a woman, however, is a whole other beast.  In no way, shape, or form is there a situation where that's remotely acceptable.  If this is true, I hope KPJ never bounces another ball in the NBA.

Miles Bridges
Bernard King
Darren Collison
Ron Artest
Jason Kidd
Rasheed Wallace
Dennis Rodman

And of course:
Kobe
Richard Jefferson
Draymond Green

And
Dwight Gooden
Bobby Cox
Randy Moss
Chad Johnson
Jim Brown
Manny Ramirez
Darryl Strawberry
Jose Canseco
Al Unser, Jr.

Re: Eason, I completely forgot they drafted a Thompson twin and Whitmore this year.  Ya, Eason is buried on that roster.

Holmes for KPJ/Eason works under the CBA.  Instead of draft capital, HOU can throw in Eason for us to take KPJ off their hands...
KPJ is 3yrs, $47.4m total
Eason is 3yrs, $12.7m total
Total = 3yrs, 60.1m total
Holmes 2yrs, $24.8m total
So, Eason costs 3yrs, $11.8m each, $35.3m total

HOU saves $35.3m.  DAL gets Eason at $11.8m for 3 years and controls his contract.  We get rid of Holmes without sending out assets with him.  We still have J.Green, THJ, and 27FRP for a starting C.

Luka , Hardy, Exum
Kyrie, J.Green, Curry
Eason, THJ, DJJ, OMax
G.Williams, Maxi, Morris
Powell, Lively

Sad but true.  Out of that list though, only Miles Bridges and KPJ have been accused of choking, right?  There's a reason every state has made that a felony.  It's not just a pushing each other around, etc.

What did Richard Jefferson do?

Only issue I have with this trade is the rumor says Hou wants a vet SG. THJ is for sure the right player outgoing. You don’t even have THJ in your final roster (or Morris, but he’s easily waived). It’s a lot less efficient shooting with the trades I proposed, but it’s a highly defensive team.

I updated it.  We would still have J.Green, THJ, and 27FRP to get a starting center.

From the Charlotte Hornets fan site, referring to Kelly Oubre. Reminds me a lot of Christian Wood talk.

that's a great trivia question? i added some words to really drive it home.
can anyone get us an answer?

I highly doubt it's ever happened in the history of the league, barring injury or someone who did something horrible and flat out ended his career.

Terrible combo of cap space drying up at record speed, teams being uber-conscious of efficiency, and the Hornets being an absolute dumpster fire.

Also I truly believe the Hornets have been viewed as completely toxic around the league for multiple seasons, and teams want nothing to do with our cast-offs.

Double standard or not, I view violence against women a whole different issue altogether.  From what I've seen RJ was a douche and beat the shit out of a dude.  Am I missing something?

Ya, good comparison.  KOJ, however, is an inefficient, volume scorer, yet a really good defender.  Wood is the exact opposite, an efficient offensive and rebounding machine.  Even if he's a complete matador on defense (which he's not a complete zero on D), I really thought he'd get Nurkic money, ~$18m.

After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers have started dialogue to work on finding a potential trade, league sources say.

Supposedly this twitter account is Buddy Hields burner. All his likes are about going/wanting to go to Dallas.

The reasoning as to why this accounts could be Buddys:

Quote:some people made videos and tweets about [the twitter account], he only ever talks about buddy and switched fanbases when he got traded. never tweeted during a game in which he was playing in and you'd expect a player stan to live tweet, and 242 is the bahamian area code which is where he's from

Thanks for posting this and the Boss242 stuff.  Shams says in his article for the Athletic that Indy made an offer to Hield but it wasn't satisfactory.  He didn't give a number, so we have no idea what the offer was.  The article doesn't have much more than the tweet.  My guess is Hield wants a raise as part of his extension and Indy wants to extend at something smaller.  They are smart to get value now if they can because there is a pretty good amount of money available in free agency next summer.

Hield has been an iron man and obviously a fantastic shooter.  He is probably the best of the players of his ilk.  But, new CBA realities haven't been kind to players in his price range and the trade value of guys like him hasn't been high either.  With Curry on the cheap and Hardy waiting in the wings, it wouldn't seem that he'd be a priority for Dallas.  Would I give THJ and a second or two...yes if the extension is two years and declining.  But, I don't think Dallas goes there.

I think Hield fits same way as THJ. He doesn't Smile

You can't have a high minutes guy that is not an above average defender next to Luka and Kyrie. The fact that Hield is a better shooter doesn't solve the Mavs main issue, which is defense. Offense was great last season.

If the deal happens, KPJ might end up being the biggest steal of the three (i.e., him, Eason, OMax). He fits as one of the guards and #2 option since he has decent size, defends, creates, shoots, drives to the rim, etc.

When Kyrie is gone in a couple of years, this 5-6 could form a really good young core around Luka.

Agreed.

I defend THJ’s on court value in a vacuum, but it’s obvious that he gets paid like a 4th-6th man, and that’s too much, given that Luka AND Kyrie are here. This is why Dallas wanted to trade him, I’m sure, but signing up to pay even more money and years for a similar player seems like a terrible idea to me.

I'm not sure I'd do this, either, but if we want to talk about acquiring currently disgruntled perimeter players, I'd think the more useful target might be Malcolm Brogdon.

Brogdon was the PG in IND before they traded him. He's more than a perimeter player, he's the Dinwiddie to Kyrie's Brunson. I would be very on board to getting him as a win now piece, especially if we were to get Capela as well, getting both without giving up too much youth would be amazing for our team's immediate needs. Keeping most if not all the youngsters keeps our future bright. Hardy and THJ for Brogdon? Holmes, Maxi and 27 for Cap (27 can go for Brogdon and Hardy for Cap either way) and we haven't sacrificed a ton of the future to compete now AND in the future.

Luka/Brogdon
Kyrie/Brogdon
Green/OMax
GWill/OMax
Cap/Lively or Powell

That's a stout 8 man playoff rotation as long as the rooks show out. Has depth in the G with Curry and Exum waiting for injury. Good depth at C. Could use another bigger wing who can hit outside shots (better than Morris) to help cover the depth needed when we go with GWill or OMax at C in the later rounds. That might have to be next offseason's target with the 2 picks we'll have (Eason after a season of being disgruntled sitting on the bench?). Man I really hope Green takes that needed step up this year!

I like Brogdon's offensive fit better than Timmy, but I'm afraid the Dinwiddie comparison is accurate on both sides of the ball.  Add the fact that he has durability issues, and I don't think he is worth Hardy or a first.

In my mind, giving away Hardy and a first for two 29 year olds is sacrificing a fair amount of our future, and I'm not sure they are worth it.

Is there a singular poster on this board who has any conviction in our young players? Has any tape been watched?

With you on everything but Capela, lol.  Brogdon would be ideal.  I really think Eason could be had if we send Holmes and take on KPJ.
