It's kind of amazing to think that Exum and Thybulle are nearly the same age.

Thybulle would have been okay and if this shooting surge proves to be permanent, then he´d easily have been worth the near MLE. 

Nevertheless if you take Jalen Smith into the TPE, maybe make a small move for Nwora/Mykhailiuk, you have more overall talent than just with Thybulle. It´s more the pressing issue of the need. Maybe you stock-pile more assets instead and hope to make a TDL move.

This was never a one summer project. Lowe/Bontemps aren´t wrong, when they say great summer, but more improvement than the Wolves (healthy), Pelicans (healthy) and  OKC (healthy)? I´m not sure either. The Mavs finally smartened up, but this is stiill a 24 months re-structuring project. 

What´s important is that Luka has fun again and sees roster progress. We basically put the whole roster on Luka´s timeline except Kyrie. And I honestly think the Mavs also re-signed Kyrie with the idea of flipping him for Ayton or Lavine next summer to complete the transformation of the whole roster.

Of course it would be nice to acquire a starting C for THJ/McGee now and we still need an extra perimeter defender.

What we know:

We are hard-capped because of the Williams S&T

We have $162.4 in committed salary to 14 players which is $10.9mm under the hard cap

Committed salary is also $2.8mm under the luxury tax.

We have not spent the MLE (we offered $10.5mm of it and held back $1.9mm of it)

The Reggie/G-Will trade is still open and can thus be added to.

At 14 players, a S/W of McGee does us no good as most of the $3.4mm in benefit is lost to replacing him with a $2.0mm minimum player.

Powell and Seth are not final yet

Holmes can’t be aggregated but can be traded by himself


What we think we know:

Stein tells us we still want to upgrade center

Various reporters tell us we want to move on from McGee and THJ

We wanted another Wing Defender as part of whatever grand plan we have in place since we made the offer to Thybulle.

We have the 2027 pick and apparently a couple of second rounders from the Reggie trade to SA that we can use in trades.
