Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms

A correction in the conversation about Thybulle - the Mavs and POR, with the consent of Thybulle, could all agree to rescind the offer sheet before the deadline, then do a sign-and-trade.

My apologies for overlooking that rule. H/T to @Sigma4Life for the heads up!

I'd gladly give up a 2nd to get Thybulle. Maybe that's all they wanted out of this.

DLord: “Let me add an important point to this idea -- if they do that, then as a TRADE you end up with the salary matching, where POR has to take a player in return to match the salary.

Javale McGee would be the obvious cheapest match.”

Maybe those two seconds from the Spurs come in handy? McGee + 2 SRP’s for SnT Thybulle? Could make sense why Mavs didn’t just dump McGee to the Spurs, instead getting the picks.

I don’t think this will happen, I think he’s just gone. BUT…if it does work out that they get him and dump McGee, all of my concerns about his salary will evaporate.

He's become a big liability on defense and I'm surprised the Pelicans haven't addressed the deficiency.  I think they would have drafted Lively if the Mavericks didn't.  Jonas is slow footed and can't guard the perimeter.  When smaller players are switched onto him, they walk right by him.  He doesn't really protect the rim either.  His defensive metrics are bad.  He is a strong defensive rebounder though and would help in that area.  He was more effective two seasons ago.  Especially offensively.

I think he's a poor fit with the Mavericks and I think Dwight Powell is a better player.

He's probably better than Richaun Holmes though.  If that's the trade, it's good for the Mavericks.  I can't imagine the Pelicans would accept that swap as Holmes brings another year of bad salary.

Thanks for the observations!

One note on Grant Williams. Boston used him to guard Giannis in the playoffs. It was effective. I don’t see why we wouldn’t throw him on Jokic.

Btw, this is from Bill Simmons. The highlights look legit. He’s such a versatile defender

This would be perfect

It says that is the guaranteed salary, so I am guessing he has omitted the salaries for the 2 draft picks. But they are on the league's cap sheet already, even though there is no report they have signed.

My list was of the numbers as we sit, and his is of where we are headed (as there are some not yet executed). For that total ahead, I have them at about 162.4. Of course, if they do more deals, that will change.

It's possible, but very unlikely imo. It takes everyone being on the same page, which would be unusual, while it turns into something very different.

Mavs get: JV and Nance jr

Pels get: THJ, Wood vet min and 2nd

Spurs get: Mcgee and 2nd

Pels save $6 million, which is enough. Mavs get better. Stay under the tax line as well

This would be perfect.  I think we would still be over the tax line after that, right?  But we could still sign one last contract roughly McGee size from the MLE up to the apron.

They’re fucking with us because we can’t spend that money until they match. So why not drag it out until the last minute.

Makes no sense to me. If they wanted to do that, they could have kept the Mavs in the dark. Why leak it to Woj?

Feels more like a negotiation ploy. We´ll find out soon.

I’m just guessing.

Whether they leak it or not, the Mavs can’t use that money for the time being.

You iight be right because I saw reports he really wanted to play here. But he has the same agent as Dame so I doubt Portland wants to do them a solid.

This is very likely true, but hell… 2 hours. Expecting to jinx it.

I've heard it all now. He's decent but he couldn't even handle Jimmy Butler, now he can guard the Joker?

Where else would the leak come from?

In the end it could be, that it was a negotiation ploy, but the Mavs failed/refused to play ball and they match it.

When the Woj report came out, I was under the impression, they had already matched in that moment.

Idk about Jokic, but he really does do a good job against Giannis. As well as anyone else, anyway. You’re gonna like him, I think.

About the Mavs' lack of activity for the last day: while reports say POR will match the Mavs' offer to Thybulle, it has not been done. His salary remains on the Mavs official cap sheet until the match is formally made. For now, the Blazers can change their mind.

So the Mavs don't know their actual cap/apron situation to work with, until that MT issue is resolved. In the meantime, they (and we) simply wait.

Deadline is 11PM CDT. If the Blazers do nothing, MT becomes a Mav. I expect he will be matched, but ya never know.

I want to live in a world where Thybulle can still be a Mav.

Until that's official, I'm not moving on from the Thybulle DREAM

I cannot wait until everyone sees Grant and Omax. These guys are cornerstones for what we’re building. They will be everyones favorite players. Extreme versatility and energy. Think like a couple bigger josh greens
