Trade & FA 2023-24: HOU Targeting Mikal Bridges again!| Mitchell is LAL #1 Target
(Sigh) I'm not going to rest easy about this whole Kyrie debacle until 1) we get the definitive Shams bomb on his fate, or 2) Houston spends all of their cap room. If he ends up leaving, I am NOT down with the return being Harden or old broken down world class a-hole PG.

If he goes to Houston, at least we have our cap room, right? Right?

(I could get the trade done successfully on fanspo but not on spotrac)

I was thinking
76'ers get PG + Kyrie
Clipps get Harden + Harris
Mavs get T.Maxey, Powell, Covington, protected 2028 1st from Philly & a protected 2029 1st from LA.

76'ers get two stars
Clipps get good return for PG and get off the Powell contract
Mavs get a young stud in Maxey, 2 firsts and an expiring for the price of taking on Powell's contract.

then the Mavs could be in the Dame Lillard business if they want to but whatever they decide going forward, they have the ability make serious moves.

I just don't think the demand is high for Harden right now.   He can't be extended, so he is pretty much a rental.   And there is question if he really is a guy you want to extend for big money at 35.   I mean it appears his biggest cheerleader in Morey was reluctant to offer him the big deal he was expecting.

I don't think Paul George is in any way a part of the Harden deal.

it is reported that a Harden deal may happen fast, I think it may go longer.   Maybe I am completely wrong.   I just think this is such a big move for Philly.  If they don't get value, there is real risk they are stuck in no mans land.  Dallas has a similar dance they need to hit.   So, I expect we will hear some crazy trade rumors for Harden and Harris over the next few weeks.   Eventhough Harden wants the Clippers, I would warn LAC that Morey is a beast to deal with and will not make any move unless he feels he is the clear winner.  That is going to be difficult due to the cards he is holding.

Seems like Harden’s game has declined, and could be on the verge of dropping off a cliff.
His defense has never been a thing of beauty, and as he gets slower, it gets even worse. He’s always needed the ball in his hands to be effective, but what happens as his efficiency drops? Russell Westbrook 2.0? Carmelo 2.0?

And that contract! Ouch! And the ego!

I just don’t see him accepting a low-salary secondary or bench role.

A low salary bench role still pays for strippers.

I agree about Harden but the Clippers open a brand new stadium in 2024 and need stars on their team to sell tickets. I don't think they can just run it back with the two guys that have let them down for the last 4 years and they also can't tear it down and start over. Harden is not what he used to be but he can be sold as a star for sure.

The Mavs are very unlikely to get Maxey out of a Kyrie S&T let alone a couple of firsts with him.  Getting Maxey and taking on Harris massive salary is something I think most of us would do, which probably means its not doable.

I still need someone to answer the main question. is it possible as a procedure under the cap?

Phila is looking to get value for Harden and dump Harris.  Salary aside, Harris is a great fit here.  No way in hell Phila is trading Maxie unless it brings back a top-10 player.  Dame is the only one I see their moving Maxie.  Kyrie ain't it.

Agree on the picks.  I don’t think Harris/Maxey is possible either.  Kyrie/McGee for Harris alone would probably be a victory.  Philly stars are Embiid, Irving, Maxey and they add the stuff from LAC to their bench (I doubt they want Powell, so that may be problematic.  Harden is not a S&T and LAC won’t have an exception, so no hard cap concerns for them…just the reduced trade spread.

If this were the way this works out, you then have to figure out your PG position.  I think a trade for Lowry or Fultz makes a lot of sense at that point.  THJ would be the outgoing or part of the outgoing in either scenario.  One of the spare parts in Washington might also work.

S&T can include multiple teams.  It can even include multiple S&T’s, but that is complex under the new rules and has to also pass BYC muster if a younger player is getting a big raise.

I would do THJ, Holmes, Bullock for Harris. Try Harris out for a year. Save $28.9m in 2024/25.

MLE to Brown.

Z.Collins for J.Green

Kyrie, Hardy
Brown, Holiday
Luka, OMax
Harris, Maxi
Z.Collins, Lively

Kyrie/McGee for Harris would not be a victory.  You seem to have swung wildly pessimistic on the Kyrie situation after hearing one report from an LA reporter than he is talking to the Suns.  If we can't come to terms with him the most likely outcome will be an S&T and it sure as hell needs to be better than Kyrie/McGee for Harris.

So the kings essentially gave us OMax to trade for Duarte…pretty questionable move, wonder if other plans fell through.

If it’s a SnT, then the definition of victory is much lower than it would otherwise be. My definition would be is it at least equivalent to what we gave up.  Another might be, is it better than losing him for nothing.  Getting off McGee’s ridiculous contract and adding a decent player is probably a disappointing yes, though I’d think Philly should also send a top 10 protected pick or maybe a couple of 2nd rounders. An alternative of rostering an unhappy Kyrie at a relatively high salary is the worst possible outcome.

Stein makes it sound like a near certainty in the piece he just released.

To be perfectly honest, I think this makes the most sense.  Ideally for the min, but more likely BAE.  Looking longer term, Holmes/Powell is a tolerable temp situation until Lively can take over.  Prefer this to Drummond for sure.  Would feel a lot better about this if they can dump McGee.

I think they split the MLE between him and one other guy. That’s my prediction.

I’m happy with him coming back. If they get him back at the minimum or the BAE, I’ll be ecstatic. I think he would really have to want to come back to do that, because I think other teams will be willing to pay him more.

My prediction is that he is going to split the MLE with someone else who won’t be as sexy as Bruce Brown and people are going to dislike it a lot.

Indiana has a ton of cap space now if they want to beat MLE offers to Bruce Brown.  Indiana and Sacramento are places where it's almost impossible to attract free agents without massive overpays.

Mavs and Lakers offering the MLE.
