Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms

Apparently, Cuban/The Mavs think the offense needs a better 3rd option.
A guy like DFS is better on D, but the "6'8" and above with ball handling abilities disqualifies him.

Some people have also forgotten that Lively is really good, still 19/20 years old with significant room to improve, and the Mavs would never trade that dude, especially for a very old guy.

If THJ and Kuz would swap places, THJ could chuck his way to 20 a night, but would be one of the worst players in efficiency.

Kuz upgrades the 3rd option on the Mavs in offense, also upgrades from a non-performing GW at PF, and also upgrades the Mavs in both rebounding and size. Not seeing that is just hate.

Note: Most hate Kuz primarily because he is a Blake Griffin level douche. Which I don't disagree.
I rather have Deni, but Kuz isn't as bad as most think.

I don’t know if Kuzma is a douche. He mostly shows up and plays. He’s just inefficient.  It’s not the Wizards. He’s always inefficient, every year, every team, every role.  It’s who he is. Inefficient players destroy your team, especially when they think they’re good. He can be a serviceable 8th or 9h man as the price for getting Gafford, but otherwise, hard pass for me. I’d rather just keep THJ.

a lot of good stuff in here from mike, but this is a personal favorite

the hawks are reportedly "seeking two first-round picks and looking to shed future payroll without taking any back to avoid the luxury tax next season in trade talks for Murray"

ah yes, here we are again

Nets want Murray. They have picks and SD and O’Neal are expirings…

The biggest name that could be traded by the Bulls at the deadline may be Andre Drummond, per @JCowleyHoops

“The growing opinion was if LaVine’s contract can’t be moved the Bulls would likely make a smaller tweak to the current lineup, possibly moving an Andre Drummond if the right deal presented itself.”

Wouldn’t be surprised if SD and 2 SRPs is the winning bid for Murray and Atl is trying to get someone to offer more.
I proposed a trade that I think Atl takes and accomplishes more salary savings on Discord. It also fits rumors.

Claxton, SD, ONeale and 2 FRPs for Murray and Hunter

Now, with Hunter in, they have little need for Cam Johnson, so let me add to the trade to make this Mavs centric.

To Nets - Murray, Hunter, GWill, Holmes, SRP from Orl, SRP from Dal
To Orl - THJ
To Atl - Harris, ONeale, SD, FRP from Bkn, FRP from Dal
To Dal - Cap n Cam

Luka/Kyrie/Green/Cam/Cap
Exum/Hardy/DJJ/Maxi/Lively

Go into the offseason with 2 FRPs to get a starting level SF and backup PF.

Luka/Kyrie/acquisition/Cam/Cap
Exum/Hardy/Green/acquisition/Lively

With a 2 FRP level SF that is a contender IMO.

Edit: After seeing smitty’s proposal, looks like Nets don’t need to add Claxton’s salary.

FWIW, Nets have an 18.8 TPE that expires Tuesday.

They'd probably want Capela in that deal, not Hunter. Reading Hawks forums they are high on a Jalen Johnson+Hunter at the 3 and 4 next to Trae. Makes sense given their size.

Capela has appeared to have regressed significantly and Okongwu doesn't really fit in Snyder's scheme. Hawks think they can use Dejounte Murray for a KAT trade, but I'm not sure that is on the table at the deadline.

My revised version:
[Image: wfyWQzbdJpHSAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg.png?ex=65d...eight=1016]

I think this deal makes more sense where Dallas is used as the team to absorb Capela and are paid DFS to do so. It's not easy finding a team to eat 20 mil and have need for a center. Mavs provide 2 2nds, to the Hawks for Murray payment as well. Nets send their PHX first in 2025 to the Hawks and also throw in Cam Thomas as the key player the Hawks can sell their fans on. Dinwiddie is an expiring and Holmes to provide backup minutes behind Okongwu who can finally start.

Mavs send THJ to the Nets (although I can see why Grant Williams would be included instead) as the Cam Thomas chucker replacement. Only hangup is that this pushes the Mavs 1.1 mil over the 165 tax line. Although sending Hardy could alleviate that pretty easily.

Luka/Exum/Curry
Kyrie/Green/Hardy
DFS/DJJ
GWill/Maxi/OMax
Lively/Capela/Powell

Is a solid enough rotation. In the summer we can then put together a package around Capela's expiring and Grant Williams +3 picks to find that solid PF we are desperately looking for and sign Drummond to be the backup center.

MIlwaukee is looking for a wing (SG/SF) defender. The article already proposes GW for Portis straight up, but I guess the author didn't see how "good" GW is defending on perimeter, so I find it unlikely (and I would do it, if it is on the table).

How about this iteration?
Mil: Green, Curry
Dallas: Portis, Beauchamp

Milwaukee gets their wing defender and a bench shooter. They save a bunch of salary this season and stay on similar level next one. Mavs fill the position of need with a combo PF/C. Portis rebounds well and is a decent shooter. Mavs would depend on Exum being healthy going forward. Beauchamp is a bench piece, athletic but raw.

I wish I could smack the like button more than once because of Bobby Portis. I love Bobby Portis and he'd fit incredibly well here at the 4. Plus he gives us that "don't f with us" energy.

But to do this deal, you're banking on Beauchamp being something. Green does play a pretty significant role here on defense and we need that defense pretty badly. Further it puts us into the tax this year due to Green only counting 4 mil against our cap.

If MIL had a 1st to trade I'd be more interested but they don't. So unfortunately my Portis dream will have to wait.

That’s a lot more complicated than mine but you’re just combining what could be separate trades. If I read it correctly the Mavs part is THJ, Gwill, Holmes, FRP, SRP for Cam and Cap. Losing no young guys and getting a starting 4 and backup 5.

Of course I’m in. Is Cam really going to get traded though? If I’m the Nets I think I want to keep him.

I can't believe Milwaukee gives up Porter for Green. Portis covers every base for Dallas. I'd do that in a heartbeat, but there's a lot of love for Portis in that town. I think they'd need a pick or another player.

I can see why all 3 teams would be happy with this trade. The only knock I have is your proposed lineup for the Mavs lol. Gwill can’t be starting!

Irving - Exum - Curry
Green - Hardy
DFS - DJJ
Luka - Gwill - Maxi - Omax - Morris
Lively - Capela - Powell

Basically the deal is a rotation player for a rotation player. I agree best long term bet at SG position for Mavs is Green, so they would need to fill that hole in the summer, while hoping that Portis and GW (with Maxi as back up) would be able to provide 48 solid minutes at PF. They would have a ton of possibilities for small ball five out line-ups with any two men combination of Portis, GW or Maxi.

Beauchamp for Curry is just to make salaries work, but Mavs gain the advantage here with Milwaukee guy having some potential.

Getting out of tax is not that difficult. I think they are just a little bit short if they pay someone to take Morris. Alternative could be to involve a third team sending Beauchamp there for a SRP or another trade with little less money going to Mavs.

Well, the author (Milwaukee beat writer) proposed GW for Portis straight up. I think my idea is better for them Smile In any case Green for Portis is trading for a position of need for both teams. Milwaukee desperately needs a starting wing (SG/SF defender) that can play defense, as their current option is Beasley.

Well GW is a better trade for us, but less likely I think.

I really think someone like Portis is exactly what Dallas is looking for. He's Gafford with a 3-pt shot. I'd be all over that.

It’s saving Nets from paying 2 FRPs and doing another deal to receive a FRP. Other than that, ya it’s 2 trades. IMO, if they get Hunter, there’s little need for Johnson. Logjam.

Also, when LAL trade Lebron to the Mavs in the offseason, Bkn can use all their draft assets and send Simmons expiring for AD!

Just read on ESPN, the Knicks defense went from the league's worst to best after adding OG. That's staggering. Avdija isn't OG but he's in the conversation to make an All Defensive team. Of the available players, I'm not sure who else might even come close to having that kind of impact on the Mavs.

Maybe Caruso but he would take minutes from Green/Exum so Green would probably have to be outgoing. Green + 1st might get it done but it burns important assets and doesn't solve the Forward situation. I'd pass.

Doe is getting more credit in the media, and he's obviously good. He's just not as disruptive. Others?

What are EITHER of those teams thinking, tnqmfh?

I can kind of see it from Chicago’s perspective, but why couch it like Bogdanovic is the goal, as if he’s the missing piece for them to compete this year?
