Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms
https://thesmokingcuban.com/posts/dallas...nney-smith

Quote:Finney-Smith has previously drawn interest from several playoff-caliber teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies (before several injuries changed their trajectory this season), among other teams, league sources told HoopsHype.

Given that Finney-Smith is signed through the 2024-25 season before a $15.38 million player option decision for the 2025-26 season, rival executives expect the Nets to continue to have a high asking price worth the equivalent of two first-round picks if they trade him with the hope that the asking price will drop closer to the trade deadline.

A few executives who spoke with HoopsHype believe Brooklyn would want a protected first-round pick for O’Neale, an upcoming unrestricted free agent.

Mostly a nothingburger, but might point us in a direction of what the Mavs may be looking for.

He's currently getting eaten alive by the Warriors media, and he's having a career low year. 12ppg, pretty horrible metrics across the board. BUT he is theoretically a 2 way wing with size. We've seen just how good he can be next to 2 all-stars. He's only 28.

I think he's a prime buy low candidate on top of the fact the Warriors are facing a horrific luxury tax. So they may be motivated in breaking Wiggins into smaller pieces.

Wiggs for THJ+Powell

THJ and Green. Make it happen. Wiggins is one of the few ideal #3 players the Mavs could get and he's under contract for a while. From what I read, he came into the season out of shape and that has contributed to his slow start. The Mavs should jump on this if possible. If we can get Wiggins without giving up a first, we have to go for it.

Warriors seem to be getting attacked by the media lately.   Are they in blow-it-up territory?  I know there is talk of trying to move Klay.

Man, Wiggins is the perfect fit for Luka...hes not ball dominant.   Wiggins was their second best player in the Playoffs though...so I dont know if Warriors are still trying to win and would keep him for that reason given he is a long two way player.

EDIT:  Looking over GSW RealGM board...they are talking moving Wiggins.  The posts I saw want a shooter in return.  They proposed Wiggins for Buddy Heild and Toppin.  Do we have something with THJ that can beat that?  I know a lot of people have thought Green would excel in GSW's offense due to the passing and cutting.  I dont want to lose Green at all...but Wiggins is a long, two-way player that fits with Luka.  He's under contract for 3 more years too.  Ascending contract...24, 26, 28, 30.

Andrew Wiggins would be a great fit here if he can bounce back.  He came in out of shape this year and has been their worst rotation player.  He's probably the biggest reason for their disappointing season.

However, he's been so good prior to this season for them that I can't imagine he's available.  That organization has been so successful and so dedicated to their core of Steph, Thompson and Draymond that they're a few years away from evening considering a tank.  Wiggins fits their roster really well as a big wing who is efficient on offense and good on defense.  He can handle and create but defers to Steph.  They need him to have any chance at competing in the playoffs.

If they do decide to blow it up next season, Wiggins would be a great target.  He'd be worth some draft assets though.

Wiggins is too much of a risk for my blood.

He was awful and disappointing before joining GS, finally had a couple of good years with them (the most professionally run, veteran led, winning mindset team in the NBA), and now is super disappointing again. The price tag is high, and effort is questionable.

Not interested, personally.

Given our lack of assets, we have to shop at the discount rack.  It's worked well thus far on Kyrie.  We just can't afford to bid on the Anunoby types.  Anyone we acquire this season will either be a mediocre player or one with some significant baggage or injury concerns.

Overpay = roster-killing move

I agree, to an extent, but Kyrie was a GREAT player discounted for mostly non-basketball reasons (although availability is certainly a basketball reason). Wiggins, in my view, is NOT a reliably good player, so the REASON he is (possibly) discounted is the reason I don't want him here.

In the case of Wiggins, I'd literally rather have whatever players you'd send out than him.

This time of year there are a lot more buyers than sellers.  Hence the asking price on Finney-Smith of 2 first-rounders.  We'd be wise to wait a few months until the prices come down a bit.

I also optimistically believe we may still have some solutions on our current roster.

Dwight Powell and Josh Green were good players last season.  I think they can be again.

Also, I hold out some hope that OMax can evolve quickly into a solution.

One thing Jason Kidd has done well is to develop young players.  I hope he has a vision for OMax and he can find a role for him this season.  I'd honestly be Ok with a 41-win season and a play-in appearance if it were the result of playing Jaden Hardy and OMax at least 20 minutes per game each.

Fair.

It's probably a pointless discussion though because he won't be available for a couple of years.

Interesting name that I haven't thought about.   He has not been good this year.   But GS should be a team we watch closely.  I don't think they make a move this year.  They will run it to the finish line imo.  But if this year is a disappointment, I think next offseason is when they may make moves.   I think Wiggins, Draymond and/or Kuminga could all be targets.

I really don't know what they do.    That thing doesn't work without Draymond, but he is getting to an age where he probably isn't the player he once was.  Klay has not been great this year.  He turned it around last year, so you need to give him some time.   He is not the defender he was though even if his offense rebounds.   They have a lot of money and if they disappoint they are going to look to cut salary...I think.

I share your concerns with him for sure. He did put up good individual stats before getting to GS, albeit inefficient and wasn’t the defender nor team sacrificer that he turned into until this season (18 games). So we know he has it in him. The big question is will he ever get back to that place? Tough to know. I don’t think the price tag will be as low as is being hoped for in the previous posts either.

We don't have the assets for a bigger fish right now, but we will next offseason, when there will likely be a lot more options.  If we pull the trigger for a Wiggens like contract now, it may make it more difficult to make the bigger move next offseason, especially if he continues to suck.

I get all of this...I understand Wiggins has flaws...

But can someone give a list of possible targets next year that we wont have to give up the farm for, fit next to Luka and could be a difference maker on defense with his length like Wiggins has already proven.   He's disruptive with his length on defense and thats YUGE in playoff competition.

Just give me the names or similar players that are disruptive with length that we wont have to mortgage the farm for.  Im sure there are some...I just dont know any names off the top of my head.

Bringing Dorian back would solve a lot of problems for us.  Probably out of our price range unfortunately seeing as he's playing really well and can fit anywhere but in the case that he did come back, I wonder what that would look like and if his role would change.  Before Bullock got here he was used to defend whoever the best player was, whether that be at the POA or off ball but once we got reggie he was pretty much strictly off ball which felt more natural for him.  I feel like if the plan would be to play him with Grant Williams that DFS would probably have to defend the POA because I think Grand would be much better off ball but maybe you could just pair him with DJJ and move Grant to the bench.

Either way I'd be happy to bring the guy back at the right price.

I mean his biggest flaw is the real chance he does not provide the disruptive defense he has demonstrated in 2 of the 10 years he has been in the league.  If he doesn't, then we are stuck with an albatross 4 year contract at roughly 27 mil.  That kind of contract is death with the new CBA.

If you mean who will be available for cheap that we are sure can provide the idealized version of Wiggins?  The answer is probably nobody.  Its why the focus should probably be next offseason vs this TDL.

It is probably going to be tough to have the best offer and would we really want to use prime assets at this point when next year we would have more?   It would probably be more likely if DFS was expiring but he still has a few years left on his deal.

I have been wondering if instead of getting a #3 we use our remaining assets for 2 level B type players.   Like Dorian and maybe a 4/5 type player to have a deep and athletic team.  Rather one that is more top heavy.  A lot would determine is what the team thinks Green is and what OMAX will turn into.   If they think OMAX is a starter in the next year, you may not need to use the remaining assets for an all-star level player and instead focus on length and depth.

I think it's pretty unfair to think Wigs is washed. He has competed at the highest level on both ends the last 3 years and he was pretty damn good his last year in Minnesota. I'm more comfortable thinking the last 4 years is who he is. He's only 28 and he didn't forget how to play basketball. This is a perfect buy low opportunity. We don't have the assets to get another star player. I think Wigs would be an excellent #3 and his defense helps hide Luka's flaws.

Is it? What makes you so sure he's being sold? I have heard/read nothing about that.

GSW's RealGM board has them throwing him around in trades.   Means nothing...but they are up for it per discussions.

His name just seems to be popping up a lot in articles and even a Warriors "insider" saying the team blames his for his lack of conditioning. Leaks like that usually don't happen. Maybe there's nothing there, but seems possible with his low performance and Steph late in his career, but still playing at an incredible level. They are a win now team and may feel like they need to make a move sooner than later. Could be nothing. Who knows.

I don’t see why the Warriors would trade us Wiggins for anything on our roster unless they were blowing it up. A third team would be needed.
