Trade & FA 2023-24: Stein-Ingram Trade Inevitable| LAL Want Lebron Back On Any Terms
I don’t see any successful plan that doesn’t start with us retaining #10 and re-signing Kyrie

1. Luka
2. Kyrie

Keep the youth and build upon it. This would give us one of the best and deepest backcourts in the league
3. Green
4. Hardy

Can’t throw away useable bench players
5. Maxi
6. Bullock

Trade bait with no guarantee of minutes
7. THJ
8. Bertans
9. Mcgee

taxMLE: we must hit on this
10. Hayes/Mcdaniels/Crowder etc

Pick #10: get our guy or trade down for more assets. We must hit on this
11. Hendricks/Walker , Lively in a trade down etc

Vet min players who fit i.e. leadership, role etc
12. Powell
13. Emergency guard Dragic placeholder
14. Older player in need position i.e. Jamychal Green

Four undrafted free agents carefully scouted
15. UDFA 1

Two-way- UDFA 2
Two-way- UDFA 3
Two-way- UDFA 4

Make these moves and then for the rest of the offseason and into next season if need be, shop the package of 2027 unprotected + THJ/Bertans for the right deal. Can’t miss

Amen

If you win the lottery, you run to the podium and take Wembayana. Maybe in a couple years he’s the one you keep and Luka is the one you trade. I can’t think of many packages I’d trade Wembayana for. Maybe if the 76ers blow it up and Embiid asks out.

For me to trade Wemby, the resulting trade would have to make the Mavs Vegas betting favorite to win the NBA title.

Would drafting him make us that? Very much doubt it.

Edit: and it wouldn’t be realized cause he’ll have a season ending injury 20 games into the season, mark my words!

Taking Wemby with the pick is a very Mavs thing to do. Throwing all our eggs in the one basket. With no real insurance if it turns out bad.

While trading picks for vets is something the Mavs would never do? Just looking at their track record I take the chance of them making the right choice with a top pick over a trade.

Yeah, it's a good thing the Mavs passed on that long-legged freak, Giannis.  I bet Shane Larkin's low center of gravity has kept him injury-free.  Good thinkin', MBT.

You said yourself Wemby is worth more than I was proposing, and I wasn’t proposing vets like you’re talking about the Mavs go after. Young players and picks. Wemby for WCJ and Banchero and picks. Fill many needs, not just 1. Get out of the mess Donnie and Mark got us in. Don’t put our eggs in the 1 Dwight Howard basket. We have Luka. We most likely have Kyrie. Wemby and a bunch of bench players with a single pick to trade or fill 2-3 holes with quality players and have 4-5 picks to maneuver a better future. 1 egg or quite a few.

Eh, Giannis still isn’t 7’5”, closer to compare KP.

As far as passing on Wemby? We don’t need to plug 1 hole, we have 3, at the very least to fill and there’s nothing to fill them when taking Wemby while there’s plenty by trading him. More than I think there is too!

whatever direction the Mavs go in, I think they are going to need to uncover a few hidden gems.   I believe Hardy is one, but they need guys who can do the dirty work.

Right now, I hope they retain and keep pick #10.  I could be talked into the right move for a trade.  But I think long term hitting on the 10th pick is the brightest option.  Now hitting on that pick is not for certain at all.

As far as the rest of the roster, this team needs to make moves like Minnesota made the past few years (minus Gobert).  It won't be a one year thing but how would this team look if it resigned Kyrie, made a smart decision at 10, and continued developing Green and Hardy with the following type moves:

Jaden Mcdaniels (late first round pick)
Jared Vanderbilt (former second round pick who they acquired via trade)
Naz Reid- Undrafted free agent
Kyle Anderson- MLE

I use Minnesota because all four of those moves were made without giving up valuable assets.   Those are the type of moves the Mavs need to hit on .

Yeah I think Gobert would work really well here.

Harden to Houston would suck, cause Phill would have more money to retain Reed, McDaniels and Milton.

There's no doubt you can get multiple assets if you had Wemby and traded him.

But I would keep him. I think he's another Kareem (rather than another KP). And that's enough for me to want him playing here, not elsewhere. He not only increases your ceiling now, but he also lengthens your timeline for remaining an ongoing contender.

All eggs in 1 basket that when he gets his season ending injury you’re stuck with nothing else to fall back on.

You don´t trade a once in a decade prospect like this. Unless you are the Hawks...

I wonder if NO wishes they had the foresight to trade their once in a decade player, who came out 2 years after another once in a decade player who was 3 years prior to this once in a decade player.

Full circle. One of KP´s last defenders on this board doesn´t want to draft an even bigger unicorn (personally I like "Gen Z Kareem"). And the biggest KP hater is all in on the skinny big from europe.

But all our eggs wouldn't be in 1 basket if we want to live in the fantasy of Wemby to the Mavs???

We still would have Luka "32/9/9" Doncic on this team. And probably Kyrie Irving too.

That's 3 eggs. 2 superstars and 1 has been heralded as the best prospect for the last 10 years.
