Trade & FA 2023-24: HOU Targeting Mikal Bridges again!| Mitchell is LAL #1 Target
(07-05-2023, 04:02 PM)JamesConway912 Wrote: Highly doubt you can keep Thybulle on the court in a playoff game. Ben Simmons-syndrom. Spacing just goes to waste.

I can’t say I’m high on Grant Williams but I’d much rather try to open up the rest of the MLE and throw an offersheet at Boston than to do so with Thybulle.

PJ Washington would be my nr 1 choice among all three but I don’t see us having the assets to get him in a SnT. Too many bad contracts.

Thybulle played all but 3 playoff games for the 76ers. The 3 he didn't play in came against the Raptors and it was because he refused to get vaccinated which led to Canada not allowing him to enter the country.

He's a winning player.

I agree though, the addition of Thybulle means we desperately need a starting 4/5 that is switchable and PJ Washington fills that role supremely well.

Thybulle with Portland: defensive rating 116.4 (better than Portland's 118.0 defensive rating as a team but he dragged their offense down under 110 so he was still an overall negative)

Green with Dallas: defensive rating 112.8 (Dallas as a team was 116.1)

Both defenses were putrid. But Green making Dallas' defense -3.3 better is better than the -2.4 better you have listed for Thybulle.

I would much rather add someone with size who could realistically slide up to at the least the 4 spot than just have Thybulle come in and either take minutes from Green lowering his potential value in a trade or being so bad he's glued to the bench like Frank was (not unlikely, either). I'll just be on record kind of hoping Portland matches

Mavs need more than one legit on ball defender on the floor. Don´t see a reason why both cannot play next to each other.
They obviously also need a bigger body but it´s not like they can just pick whoever they want. We don´t know if Williams is available or what it would cost to get him. Same for PJ Washington. If Thybulle is the bird in hand that wants to join the Mavs I wouldn´t waste the opportunity.

I'll be very surprised if Dallas offers less than the full TPMLE.

Hell yeah. Next up THJ for PJ.

15 man roster with (age).

Doncic (24) - Curry (32) - Exum (27)
Irving (31) -  Hardy (21) - *Pinson* (27)
Green (22) -  Thybulle (26) - Bullock (32)
Washington (24) - Kleber (31) - Prosper (21)
Holmes (29) - Lively (19) - Powell (31)

Nico will have surrounded Luka and Kai with the perfect role players and the age of this team has them ready to contend now and for the next 3+ years.

Also, use Reggie’s expiring and/or ‘27 FRP at the TDL to put you over the hump if need be!

In Nico I trust!

I don't mind making a play for Thybulle if they feel Grant Williams isn't realistic. I fully expect to get kicked in the Thyballs though.

Makes less sense to keep Thybulle if Blazers want to play & develop Rupert.  Similar lengthy, defensive oriented wing…

Apparently Cato is the source, but I haven’t seen it firsthand. The rumor is $7.9M to start.

To make matching less attractive, player option in year 3 and 15% trade kicker both likely.

Gotta say, that’s as high as I’d care to go, personally. I’m good with it, whether they match or not.

1. Bird in hand
2. Nobody is going to gift us a proven player. We will need to take some risks.
3. At this point we’re still trying to accumulate talent. So many holes so we fill the ones where we have good options to fill them. We’re in no position to turn down free talent that has a role
4. Yes both Green and Thybulle will play together. How else do you stop Beal/Booker , Steph/Klay , Fox/Monk , etc ? Many teams just like us roll with two ball handlers on the court at all times

I prefer Williams but he may not be available if there’s a hard line on FRP being the price.

The Hornets have Brandon Miller, Nick Smith Jr, Cody Martin, James Bouknight, Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward at the wings.

But You know what they need? Tim Hardaway Jr or Reggie Bullock.

Totally makes sense!*

Looks like it was in his article from a couple days ago and he's just talking about a theoretical of how to get Grant Williams as well as Thybulle so it's not directly linked to today's reporting.

Good thing THJ is a guard.

If that's it, I have to think Portland just matches without even blinking. I would think the Mavs offer more than that but less than the full MLE.

If it is 7.9 million and Portland declines, the Mavs get an important role player for a good price. They still need some length up front, but I'm hoping Hardaway's contract is worth something that can translate in a PF-C type.

There’s no reason for Mavs to offer less than full MLE. Just waisting time in that case. The Mavs wanted Thybulle at the TDL last year. They clearly value him. They have to make it painful for Portland. I fully expect a 4/54 offer and for Portland not to match. Different timelines and needs for each franchise.

If this leak does anything it gives time for a possible SnT. Could Portland have some interest in an expiring Reggie, which they can flip for an asset at the TDL?

I question someone's bball acumen if they consider Nick Smith Jr, Cody Martin, James Bouknight and Terry Rozier as "wings".

I don't think my grade would change much with Thybulle on the roster or not. For me, a starting PF is still the good vs average offseason. So, I think I would be fine with Thybulle but finding better front court talent is more important for our immediate playoff viability.

I view three levels:
1) Really unlikely- PJ Washington
2) Probably unlikely- Grant Williams
3) available- Marcus Morris

#1 and #2 would be great, depending on returns. I just have trouble seeing routes for either. I would be less thrilled with #3. It would be a stop gap, but not sure he can defend any longer. May have been a better player than Williams and Washington will ever been, but that is in the past imo.

I'll be shocked if he gets the full 4 year MLE.  Like 10% chance I think it happens level of shocked.

Grant and PJ aren't leaving their teams for some other team's MLE.

So where do you use your MLE if not on Thybulle? Serious question. Adding more small-salaried junk is what we did in the past, and that proved useless.

How far are the Spurs from the Salary floor? They are probably looking for picks right? if they don't do you think they could have any interest in Bullock and Hardaway? Bullock could be moved at the deadline and potentially Hardaway too. Probably not likely and they will find ways to spend their money somewhere else, but just curious.

Sources: The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics are finalizing a three-team trade:

- Mavs: Grant Williams
- Spurs: Reggie Bullock and an unprotected Dallas pick swap in 2030
- Celtics: Multiple second-round picks
