MAVS NEWS: Luka Is Hurt, But is Trudging On | DLive's Mom Passes Away| Maxi OUT

It's still a little hard for me to see Holmes/Drummond/Lively as the final roster for the center position. The deck could be shuffled one more time in the next few days.

Well, he looks like he enjoys dunking on Mavericks.

Played for the Nets the prior season to finish out the year. Put up a double/double. Again, I think most of his stats are empty but he has always been a good rebounder.

BTW, he is declining a $3.36 million option in Chicago.

BAE is $4.5M. Seems about right, if the Mavs make moves to free up the MLE and BAE.

Could it also be for the leftover TPE we have as well?   If he didn't decline his option.

It is pretty funny how a good percentage of his highlights last year included plays by Goran.

Test for the new front office. He has been a vet min or slightly above vet min player. Not even in the BAE range. Nothing he did in the past 2-3 years suggests that he should get more in the future but if we look at McGee´s or Powell´s contract that hasn´t stopped the Mavs in the past.

20/21 550k Lakers (minimum after he was waived by the Cavs)
21/22 2.4m 76ers (vet min, later traded to the Nets)
22/23 3.2m Bulls (slightly above vet min, Bulls split NT-MLE)

My thought also.  There are other possibilities, but it won’t be for the minimum.  Other thoughts:

Yes, Powell gone.  I’ve been thinking this since his name started showing up on lists for other teams (agent planted no doubt).

Yes, McGee gone.

1. McGee could go out in trade (like the Ayton deal), but no one is looking to take him on, so it has to be part of something bigger.  Access to the MLE is dependent on the spread between outgoing and incoming.

2. McGee could be S/W’d, but it doesn’t get you much additional room.  His number is $2.4mm instead of $5.7mm.  If we do any 2-for-1 trades, you have to replace him with a minimum and the savings is tiny.  If he is waived and replaced by the BAE, then the savings is $3.3mm.  Working from memory, if you S/W McGee and go with a 14 man roster and pay Kyrie $40mm and Holmes gets his TK, I’m pretty sure you have room for the MLE and BAE.

At this point, it starts to look like Ayton-Lively-Drummond or Holmes-Lively-Drummond.  I know which one I like.

Yeah I have a feeling the Mavs are about to overpay for him since this move is so early in the process Sick If this was an end of free agency move to complete the roster then I could see it being for cheap. But to already announce it this early in FA is worrying

He has no reason to commit early to a small contract.

I’m fully expecting Drummond to sign here for the full MLE or a large chunk of it.

Mavs are in full overcompensate-mode in regards to the C-position. Lively was a significant reach in the lottery, I’d expect them to continue to overpay in FA as well. The McGee-signing last summer was also their one big FA move and the need at that position hasn’t gotten any smaller.

The remaining question really, is, if McGee is outgoing in a trade, what does the trade look like and what players are incoming?

Ayton, as Dan mentions, is the only one churning in the rumor mill. I have a harder time with a S\W with McGee, but I suppose that's possible.

no chance

even the BAE is an overpay for Drummond

Jus read that the minimum salary for vets with 10 years of experience is $3.20M. Hope that's it. $3.2 mil vs the $3.36 option and he gets to play for his home town team.

Agree, after the way the front office handled the draft I'm very confident that the front office wouldn't overpay for Drummond by that much unless they did something weird where Nico handled the draft and Cuban handled the free agency.

Oh shit.

Born in New York. Raised in Connecticut. Went to UConn. What am I missing?

Holmes (16 mpg)/Lively (16)/Drummond (12)/Maxi (4)

Center by committee sounds about right. As long as AD isn’t making more than the BAE (only because he turned down $3.3M, otherwise he should be at vet min).

Now can we focus on wing acquisitions?

LOL maybe I'm confusing him for Chris Bosh. I couldve sworn he had some ties to DFW.

Good point.  He doesn’t count $3.2mm against the cap, but he makes that.  Makes more sense to opt out when what he gets elsewhere is just as good.

FWIW, he started 24 games in 21-22 after being traded to Brooklyn.  Teammates were Kyrie and Bruce Brown.  He was basically a 12/10 guy in 22 minutes during that time with a TS% of .610.  Kyrie recruit?

Drummond be the second or third center?  He would have been a much better investment last year instead of McGee.  I would actually be fine with this signing, depending on coast.  I would not have any grand plans for him either.  there are times where he can grab 20 rebounds and some nice dunks and then other times when he is not really useful at all.    Maybe could play well with Luka.

If this is true, I won't be surprised if the Mavs aren't banking on Lively this year. No way Drummond is coming here to be 3rd C, no way we are getting him to be starting C either.

Seems like it needs to be in the $3.5m-$4.5m range.
