AROUND the NBA: MIN Sweeps PHX!
(06-19-2023, 10:04 AM)HoosierDaddyKid Wrote: The Wizards are in full-blown rebuild mode now. They had to get off Beal's deal to expedite it.  Now the question is will KP opt-in on his deal?  The Wizards will now be the landing spot for teams to dump bad contracts, and in exchange, the Wizards will accumulate picks.  They'll follow the OKC model for a rebuild.

Just wondering what the market would be for KP if he opted out.  I'm thinking he might be wisest to opt in.

He also has history with Kyrie as well.

Basically shows that this league still has no integrity. To make this BS move between father and son is one thing, but to have the audacity to throw in two young players, and one fairly high draft pick, just to strengthen the Suns depth should be a major red flag. This deal should have been turned down by the league office.

Supposedly it hasn't been submitted yet

Father is not employed by Wizards...

Wizards do not have to trade Beal, if they don't want to. It's not on the league to keep them from doing something stupid. By most accounts, MIA was also in the mix (and perhaps others not named) and WAS decided they preferred the PHX offer. While it looks like the Wiz are acting like idiots, it's their team and team values and team future.

And maybe Beal's massive contract overlaid with his age and worrisome injury history is a bigger deal than we realize. WAS's haste to trade him, and take whatever they can get, it hints that there might be more to the equation than we know.

That contract is going to get real bad real quick (if it's not already). He's paid like a generational player. Not to mention that the NTC transfers to PHX now so they'll be in the same bind that WAS was in.

Or Beal told WAS he wasn't going to MIA. That trumps all offers

No one has suggested that was the case. Instead, there were originally even more offers on the table (and teams acceptable to Beal, apparently), then it was narrowed down to 2 finalists. MIA just didn't bid enough of what WAS was most interested in.

It seems to be a case of WAS prioritizing shedding salary as fast as possible. They only have 2 players who are likely to have big contracts next year (KP and Kuzma), and with both being free agents, who knows what their payroll will be.

They could shed even more if they wished to head down the highway of being a team with an empty roster who will accept your salary if you send us your picks. The OKC model. Sell off KP and Kuz in SNTs.

Shams and Gambadoro (who is very plugged in with Phoenix) both said that Beal specifically chose Phoenix.

Quote:The no-trade clause in Bradley Beal's contract ultimately allowed him to choose his next destination.

Beal picked the Suns over multiple other trade options, including Miami, Milwaukee and Sacramento, sources tell

I have read multiple sources that all seem to agree that Beal chose Phoenix and forced Washington to take that deal. In fact I've read a couple of places that Beal wanted Ayton to not be part of the deal.

But its all speculation for now. The truth will come out eventually.

Again, WAS did not have to trade him unless they wanted to.

I'm sure Beal's input was part of the process, since it had to be. But I don't buy that he dictated "Suns or no trade" and it doesn't sound like it's being reported that way either. Gambadoro has a story he's selling, but he's often more homer than gospel on his facts about Phoenix teams.

Gambo's "source" is his belief that MIA could have out-bid PHX because they had 1st-rounders they could trade, but Beal didn't go there, so that MUST mean Beal said "PHX or nowhere." Like trade discussions in this forum from time to time, he believes that whoever has the best assets to offer is going to get the deal, ignoring the fact that teams bid what they think is worth it, which can often be far less than what they could have bid.

MIA has very reputable reporters, several of them, saying Beal was 100% willing to go there, but the Heat opted not to put the goods on the table (saving their ammo for Lillard).

Lack of available capspace. It´s an interesting situation because most teams with capspace are rebuilding and have little use for a win now veteran on big contracts. Players like Trent are probably better off if they opt in or resign with their current team.

Hating coaching Ayton is no surprise.  World beater one day, G-Leaguer the next.
