GSW options:
1. Run it back without extending Green and Thompson for another run at the title next year. Everyone will be a year older (which might be good for Kuminga and Moody, but not for their core). If they can't beat Sacramento this season, can they hope to get better next season? Green and Klay walk after next season. However, both have indicated they want extensions. Green can walk this season already.
2. Run it back with extending Green and Thompson. They will remain ridicoulusly expensive. They replace DiVinzenzo with either Moony or vet min. This will be a long painful death, as those contracts will be untradeable and their chances will get worse with each season passing.
3. Run it back by extending Green and Thompson to a lower value. Would they be willing to even consider it?
4. Start the rebuild. Trade Green for capspace and draft capital. Replace him with Kuminga and try to find Thompson replacement in the draft.
My best proposal remains:
#10 and Bertans going to a third team (cap space team) for a smaller asset like an interesting young player, future lottery protected pick or lower pick in this year draft. This asset goes to GSW, who hopefully also eats McGee contract. Mavs get Green. GSW gets a shot at replacing DiVinzenzo with the asset they receive, while Kuminga replaces Green. I could also do it with THJ in which case the cap space team would also eat McGee contract. If they prefer 2027 pick instead of #10, I am ok with it.
I think GSW future depends a lot on GM decision. If they keep Myers, I would assume they would more likely run it back. If he walks, the new guy might receive a task to orchestrate a rebuild. First round exit this year could make them more likely lean towards the second option, imho.
It's kinda funny now, thinking back to all the posters who have praised GSW and their free-spending ways. Eventually, overpaying bites you.
