GSW without Curry almost 20 points behind Spurs in the first half. Lets hope Boston finishes Booker less Suns, up by 12 at the half.

Yeah, bad news/ good news.
Bad news is it looks like the Pelicans are well positioned to get a top 6 seed. Good news is the Kings lost at home to Houston.
Sixers and Knicks are 41-38 near the middle of the third. What the heck.

Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun was wheeled off court after landing on his left leg and writhing in pain late in victory over Sacramento. Sengun's had a tremendous season: 21.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and five assists.

Mavs play Houston twice the rest of the way. Suns and Kings have already played them.

Final score, Philly 79 NY 73. Lowest combined score since 2015. And they play again Tues. Pelicans have won 4 straight, all on the road.

tough seeing the Lakers win both the Bucks and Wolves games. Both were at home. Lebron missed the Bucks game. Last night the Wolves were shorthanded. I was hoping for a split.

The ideal scenario for the Mavs is finishing 6 to avoid the play-in for one, but also to get a favorable match-up.
To me it looks like:
Clips are destined for 4 and Pels 5.
MIN without KAT is the most likely to finish at 3 of them, DEN, OKC.
DEN is the best in the West, they can finish 1 if that's their goal.
Suns have a brutal schedule and Kings also have a tough one, and frankly SAC isn't all that good imo.
1 DEN
8 LAL/GSW
4 LAC
5 NOP
3 MIN
6 DAL
2 OKC
7 PHX
I think Mavs get to 6. PHX beats SAC in the play-in to get 7. Then the winner of Lakers/Warriors beats SAC for the 8. Biggest thing for Mavs is if DEN can finish 1 then it becomes more likely that Mavs end up on the MIN/OKC side of the bracket instead of DEN/LAC.

No way the Mavs get to 6th unless this "worst-defense-in-the-league" schtick of the pre-Miami stretch is 100% behind them. Not sure I trust that's the case.

I am score watching a little and hope to avoid the playin game(s) because if we lose out before the playoffs, I am afraid of what those repercussions may mean.
But, I am much more interested in playing well going into the playoffs. Now is the time to get a good stretch of playing together where everyone knows their role. Hopefully we have no more Sixer & Pacers typs of games.

Mavs have a chance to own all tie breakers against Pelicans, Sacramento, Phoenix, and GSW.
Phoenix is already locked down. The final 2 Sacramento games are as must win as possible. Mavs can find a way to eek out the Pelicans as long as they win the rest of their division games. We got HOU twice, and the Spurs once. Pelicans have Spurs once as well. Pelicans are 9-6 against division teams and the Mavs are 8-5. If the Mavs win out, they can own the tie breaker vs. the Pelicans.
Lots of words to say HOU, SAS, SAC, and GSW games are must win games.

It's more about schedule than anything. I know they have to play the games, but...
Schedule rank rest of season:
#1 PHX .569
#7 SAC .522
#8 NOP .514
#17 LAL .495
#21 DAL .483
#23 GSW .472
Mavs are 1GB of #6 PHX and own the tiebreaker. 0.5GB of #7 SAC with a chance to get the tiebreaker in 2 more match-ups.
Same thing for why I think DEN passes OKC for #1. Denver is just better but only 1GB and have the 5th easiest remaining schedule in the league while OKC has the 9th toughest.

SOS doesn't mean anything if they can't defend even the worst teams. Remember Salah Mejri. Even a team that's trying to tank is hapless not to score against a team that can't/won't defend absolutely anything.

I agree Mavs have to be better defensively but I think they'll be okay moving forward and that's why I posted that I think they finish 6.
Kidd has two options the way I see it. Play the best 8-9 (playoff type rotation) and try to win as many as possible or tinker with the lineup and rotations to gather more data going into the playoffs, while also trying to win of course.
Either way I'm optimistic that he seems to have found some things that work. Gafford is out of the doghouse recently. Exum says his minutes restriction is lifted and Kidd can play him roughly 25 minutes if need be. Hardaway is playing under 20 mpg (17mpg in March). With more time on the court together the Mavs will look better on both sides, IMO. They have been the most injured team in the league this year and the TDL guys have only played 12 games.
Minutes played for top 5-man lineups:
1. OKC 693
2. DEN 774 & 345
3. MIN 610
4. LAC 466
5. NOP 387
6. PHX 274 & 190
7. SAC 654
8. DAL 88
9. LAL 242 & 216
10. GSW 168 & 140 & 135

The "best-defense-in-the-league" schtick during the 7 game win streak seemed like a much more useful schtick so hopefully the find a way to harness some of that again.
