The fact that the Spurs were one of the first front offices to call about KP makes me think your statement is false.
Further, I remember at the time of the deal everyone making fun of the Knicks, calling it a fleece. Every pundit, fan, and even the anonymous GM's were saying "The Knicks didn't take calls on KP and traded him for THAT?"
It didn't work out. It's unfortunate. But you still do that deal 10 times out of 10.
