SUMMER LEAGUE: Gm 5 84-95 loss, JH 15 pts, 3 ast, 3 rbd, 7 TO
Not worried about Hardy. Tighter handles will come in time. The key things with Luka is if you can play off the ball for long stretches. Hardy clearly can. Lawson though was the better player tonight. Looking at his 3 pt % it is not a fluke. Sign him before someone else does. Shooters don’t stay under the radar or on the street too long.

Hardy, Lawson and Pajola are the winners. Wright and Bingham the losers. My one game overreaction self wants to give Wright´s two-way spot to Lawson.

Hardy has the skills and the NBA body.  Still has decision making issues.  It was a solid debut.  Would have had several more assists had his teammates knocked down open looks.

It is not an overreaction. Our bigs are not strong enough. You can see things like that right away. This is an era of skill. No need to waste a roster spot on a developmental big

Agreed. Unless you have a guy you think can be a star, I don't see any reason to try to waste time developing a big. There will always be a Javale McGee type available if you need it. Wings, especially 3 and D types, are like gold in today's NBA so that's the position I'd like to see them trying to develop. If we're signing Dorsey to one of the two way spots, I'd like to see the other go to AJ Lawson. Lets churn through wings until we find the next DFS or Bullock.

Ok WOW.

What a good first game. So far the only guys I think remotely have a chance in the NBA are:

Alessandro "Josh Giddy" Pajola
AJ Lawson
Jerrick Harding
Jaden Hardy
Moses Wright

Pajola- looked incredibly comfortable out there. Great defense, a little wild at times. Loved his ball movement. Didn't really look to score but he played his role
Lawson- Woah. Dude can shoot. I think this kind of performance isn't likely to be replicated though given he only shot 34% on threes in the G-League. But he played solid D, drove to the rim, and hit timely threes. Really liked what I saw.

Harding- Had some flashes of great point guard play. Had a moment where he stripped the ball in the backcourt, dove for it, and came up with an and-1 assist.

Wright- Had an overall quiet game, but he was the only one that could guard the rim. Had some great blocks and good touch layups. Need to see more from him.

Now onto the main course Hardy- I absolutely LOVED what I saw. The weakest part of his offensive game to me was his ability to finish around the rim and in the first quarter proved my doubts wrong. He was a 3-level scorer. His step back mid ranges were something of beauty. Only one game, but its obvious this kid has some serious talent.

I'm also glad he kind of faltered down the stretch. I think that will make him even more motivated to work on his game and keep him humble.

Hardy was my guy before the draft (although I had like 5 guys before him that never even came close to 26th), but the mere fact Rashad "Luka should be a 2nd rounder" Phillips likes Hardy too made me seriously reconsider my entire position and almost single handedly made me a Hardy Hater.

Ok not really but still really dislike Rashad "Luka wouldn't even succeed in college" Phillips.

Pretty entertaining game.   Sorry the Mavs could not finish it off late.

I wonder if Moses Wright had an injury or just didn't have legs today?  From the highlights in G-league and college, he pretty much slams everything inside the paint.  He was not very explosive today. There were 4-5 plays that I expect him to slam it home.  He only played 16 minutes.

This will be a real good experience for Hardy.   Love how he got the end of the game looks.   Even in failure those are good reps.  Lets all agree not to throw him out when he goes 2 for 15 in an upcoming game.   Just like not anoint him after one summer league game.   Really nice performance.   He has that natural scoring gene.

I think Dalon Terry is going to be fine.  He is so long and has a nice feel, but he also has clear deficiencies.   I believe I had him right behind Hardy in my wishlist of guys I thought might make it to 26.    He will need time though.

I like the Italian Giddey.   Probably not a serious NBA player, but every team needs guys who just keep the ball moving.

The Shamgod drill, when he said don´t look at the balls look at me, was the one criticism I always had with Brunson. He was excellent next to Luka, because he really is a head down iso scorer, that can create for himself, but it will be really interesting to see how he works as a "real" PG. Peripheral vision and keeping his dribble will surveying the court under pressure was always his biggest weakness. That´s when he usually became turnover-prone. He´ll still be an excellent scorer for the Knicks, but whether he can be a PG is a different matter.

I liked that about Hardy. His decision-making still needs a lot of work, but he has the peripheral vision and awareness to find the open man, which will be useful on the secondary action off Luka.

Looking around the league and at some former Mavs (or Legends):

Feron Hunt with a really nice game. 17pts 7stls for the Knicks

Moses Moody with 34pts for the Warriors in the same game. One of the classic what is he even doing here performances. Scoring at will against lesser competition.

Lakers just collecting sons of former stars. Pippen Jr isn´t looking bad. Shaq Jr looks just as lost as the Mavs bigs.

Joshua Primo. Spurs first round suprise from last years draft had a rough rookie season but considering that he is only 19 years old (would have been one of the youngest players in this years draft class) that wasn´t a big suprise. First summer league game was promising. 20pts 5/7 from 3.

Cam Thomas is a similar case. Little bit older and with some injury problems. Dropped 31pts against the Bucks.
