TDL Archived: The 2nd Rnd Pick Yankee Swap
Just saying while everyone is dreaming of trading for Bridges or Johnson.   I think smart teams will look at DFS and O'neal.   Both seem like redundant and probably behind a few of their wings.   It would suck to see DFS shipped to Memphis or some other team in the west.

I think Mavs need to do something like Lakers did. One salary and pick for two useful players. Detroit, Houston or Charlotte seem like prime candidates for that kind of deal

Don't utter such distasteful things

I'm already sad DFS ain't on the Mavs. If he has to play against the Mavs 4x a year I'd be pissed.

If a Josh Howard for Haywood, Butler, and DSteve type move was available, that would be smashing, but we don't have a Josh Howard or Antawn Jamison level player we want to trade.

Is Wood not a Josh Howard type player?

At least at this point. Howard was 2 years post all-star and smoking the ganja. Wood is also known to be an enthusiast of weed...

Don't think that is nearly enough for Claxton.  I don't think they have any interest in letting him go and I don't think we have the assets for it anyways.

There’s nothing in Det that makes me want to give a FRP for. Cha I would do a FRP if we’re getting McDaniels and PJ back. This is an unrestricted pick in the long term future. Hou, I don’t think they would give up the player(s) we’d want to give up a FRP for. NYK have some players that would be worth it. Tor is asking too much and with their recent trade, I don’t think they’re in the business of selling off anymore. Atl, maaaaybe, that’s a close one.

Would you guys do this exact same trade but for Wood?

No. Mavs should be all in, this deal is making them worse on court

Add Grant Williams and no picks and I’m down.

Edit: also add Pinson or Frank

Arent the Suns like paying 120 mil to Booker/Ayton/KD? There is no way they can conjure up any sort of offer for Kyrie no?

Maybe. Maybe not. They reportedly wanted Hardy in the Kyrie trade. Surely Claxton isn't worth more than Irving? Expiring Wood replaces Durant (impossible I know) and the '27 pick could be valuable with obviously no protections on it.

They have CP3 and zero assets left. Not sure what would be the Mavs incentive to do it...

Aslo, wasn't Windhurst yesterday all about Kyrie and Lakers?

It's amazing all these prognosticators are already picking Phoenix as the favorite to come out the West, totally disregarding Denver who has the best record currently.  It's going to take time for them to develop chemistry and see what other moves will be made. Health is wealth, so if they can stay healthy, they should be one of the top teams contending along with Dallas, Clippers, etc..

They still have the same weaknesses in Ayton and CP3. Both exploitable with nothing behind them to stop the bleeding. Unless Ayton starts playing closer to the contract he got against small ball C’s, that ship is sunk IMHO.
