But regarding your specific points, he was banned from playing by the city of New York (who simultaneously allowed unvaccinated players from other states to play) and by the Nets who refused to let him play in away games. And to my knowledge, the extent of him "talking about Jews" was sharing a link to a Netflix movie on Twitter. Both have been heavily politicized, for sure. And I'm not claiming he's a saint, either. The dude has issues. But I also think he's not the evil character that some people have been led to believe.

It feels weird to defend anti-semitism (if that’s what I’m doing). And I don’t really want to be defending this clown. But . . .

1. His anti-semitism appears to be extremely stupid ignorance rather than anything I could call hateful with a straight face.

2. I don’t cheer for basketball players (or actors or musicians, by the way) for their smarts or social conscience.

3. Whatever he’s done, it looks super mild in comparison to the late great Kobe Bryant.

Will he work out here? I have no clue. But you all should recognize Tyler’s take on this as reasoned and reasonable. I hope the Mavs can also be reasoned and reasonable. They certainly have enough inside info to know (better than this board) whether the dude is a horrible human being or not.
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

We have missed on so many players we’ve wanted at this point. We are not a destination and i don’t think players like Cuban. What would it be like if we never got a real player and Luka demands a trade in his last year? I would end my 25 years of Mavs fandom. This should be a bigger deal to Cuban than anything Kyrie could possibly do

Please.

Julius Randle wanted to be a Maverick.
Lauri Markkanen wanted to be a Maverick.
Jalen Brunson wanted to be a Maverick, and save me the Cuban BS propaganda of this being an inevitable outcome.

Facts are that if Mark Cuban wasn´t an utter moron, four of the 14 best players in the NBA right now, based on total WS this season, would be Mavericks AND ALL FOUR would be on value contracts.

This has nothing to do with nobody wants to sign here. Mark Cuban thought the combination of Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber and THJ was better than Lauri Markkanen and Julius Randle. He didn´t recognize the talent of Brunson. That´s the reason, we are where we are. Not that nobody wants to sign here.

All the guys he actually wanted to sign, sucked within 12-18 months of his failed attempts: Hassan Whiteside, Kyle Lowry, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard.

And the guys he succesfully did sign like DeAndre Jordan, Chandler Parsons and Wes Matthews didn´t even need that long.

Facts are the Mavs/Cuban can´t recognize talent and evaluate for sh*t. I don´t see a single franchise that would be worse than us right now, if they had drafted Luka.

Sorry for ranting, but I´m sick and tired of this excuse.

AND they're unloading Fournier.  That was my thought with only 1 FRP.  What are your thoughts for the Mavs?  So it it's two FRPs:

Bullock/Powell/Frank/McGee/2FRPs
for
Obi/Quickley/Reddish/Fournier

Point - Luka, Quickley
Guard - Dinwiddie, Fournier
Guard - Green, THJ, Hardy
Forward - DFS, Obi, Reddish
Center - Wood, Maxi

I don't think NY has any motivation to unload Fournier unless they get better doing it. I don't think they get better in this proposed deal, I think they get considerably worse. Of course 2 FRP is a nice asset. In this case I see Mavs saying no. Those guys are not worth betting your whole asset base on them, imho

I disagree about Fournier, if the rumors are correct.  Same with Bullock.  Powell gives them an upgrade from Sims.

NYK are 5 games out from the #4 EC spot.  It's win now.

I think it’s all the same problem. Jerry Cuban is the 2nd worst owner in the NBA. It will be a yearly battle to keep him from ruining the franchise just like it’s always been. Still, real players do not want to come here and yes Cuban is the biggest factor. Plenty of evidence over the years that this has happened

The only one on that list i buy though is Randle. Yes, we could have had him. But he wasn’t an all star top player at the time. Markkanen wasn’t an all star either and we didn’t have a FRP to trade at the time of his SnT, so i don’t count that. Brunson i do not believe wanted to be here

A Kyrie-level player is not going to sign here in FA or demand a trade here in the next 2 years. And an open market player that will play anywhere we will not have the highest bid. It’s hard to see a path if “co-star” is the path we choose over “elite role players”

You're missing the point.  It's player projection and valuation that's lacking.  If they were allstars at the time, they wouldn't be available.  Take Lauri...  going into his FA year, he was a 7-footer averaging 40%3pt.  I was screaming from the mountain tops to sign him.  He ended up getting $67mill over 4 years.  Instead, we overpaid THJ with 11% MORE money ($75mill over 4 years).
