Agree with mvossman…it is about optionality. I don’t think the deals I’ve mentioned weaken our ability to compete now or next season. In fact, the Bojan deal even gives the option of keeping him into the 24/25 season. Trading 3-4 firsts for Sammy Superstar is more of a message board creation than something the team has said they plan to do, but it is definitely a possibility. I would note that the most credible rumors about the Mav’s lately are about guys on short deals. I’d also note that the price of Sammy Superstar has gone up a ton.
I think the in-between for this kind of thing might be to trade one pick and THJ or Bertans for a high priced guy on a short deal and a young guy. That way you’d add a guy you might want to keep and retain say three of the four picks you could trade this summer AND set yourself up for Plan Powder 24.
