If the Mavericks are offered something that will make them better next season, or the one after that, in exchange for a rotation player now, it’s growing more unreasonable to think this team can’t consider it because of the implications it might cast upon this year.

It remains true that any team with Dončić will win more games than it loses. It’s certainly true that this season, under any circumstance, can’t be punted or deliberately sabotaged. That won’t happen, and it’s never been under consideration. But neither can the idea that the Mavericks must maximize this flawed roster at the expense of the future to win some more games in a season that won’t end in a championship. That middle ground isn’t an easy one to find, but it’s almost certainly the team’s best path forward this year.

WRONG.

The middle ground is the worst place to be. Either f*ck it up completely by trading Green/Hardy/more future picks for aging starters like Bogdanovic or Turner to win the championship now (LOL) or burn it to the ground, tank and start over with Luka, Green and Hardy, your 2022 pick and a better cap structure.

You can´t tank is such a BS line. Luka misses 20 games with made up minor injuries, we are going at least 3-17, if not 0-20 with Hardy/Green playing 35 MPG.

We are 14-14 with Luka playing 37 MPG. Just playing Luka 27 MPG probably drops us into Lakers/Thunder 11-16 territory. Also Houston has as many road wins and home losses as the Mavs! Our schedule is home heavy.

This team can easily tank. Of course you cannot half-ass it, which is a Mark Cuban specialty.

It´s truly astonishing that after owning this team for 20 years, he still hasn´t figured out that Hardy and Green rapidly improving throughout the season (maybe 10-15 PPG toward the end of the year) and a high-end draft pick at the end (top 5) are a bigger drawing card for Luka to stay than some shitty veteran roster with a 1st round ceiling.
