Is he the secondary prize in a trade? To the point we dont care if he walks after the trade? If he is THE prize...are you willing to give him the money he wants? Because no one on the Charlotte board wants to give him the money he supposedly wants. And it seems like a majority of the posters would prefer to keep him...but not at the price he wants.
Seems as though they think he is decent...but not decent enough to overpay. Yet...they also think many teams would want him...so he is definitely a liability to walk. Seems like a bad situation to be in for an Organization from a negotiation standpoint.
But that is the way you have to deal.
I suggested trading Bullock for Hachimura, based on a few similar factors:
1.) Hachimura and Kuzma are free agents next summer.
2.) They can´t pay both.
3.) They are more likely to retain Kuzma as he is the better player (right now)
4.) They are in win now mode with Porzingis/Beal
5.) They have a hole at SF.
6.) Bullock is cost controlled.
Those are the arguments from the Wizards side. Mavs get a young player in line with Luka´s window, who has never played with a great PG and has outperformed his NBA level at FIBA tournaments, despite having inferior teammates on Japan and theoretically a game more suited to the NBA.
Therefore such a trade makes sense to me.
The same arguments, basically apply to the Bullock for PJ Washington part of the trade. The rest is basically a matter of your player evaluation skills. Though I have no doubt our owner would flat out reject Bullock for either player.
