TDL Archived: The 2nd Rnd Pick Yankee Swap
(02-05-2023, 05:27 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Where are they coming from?
You need like 8 guys to win a title. The hardest to get are a true #1 and true #2. The hard work is over and i fully expect one or two more picks will be used to fill out the team now and/or this summer. So, we ride with that team for the next few years

A few more years from now we will have a few more picks to trade to build a new team.

Plus we have draft day trades to upgrade every other year if needed

Toronto gets Mavs 2025 and 2027 FRP, Draymond Green's expirer, J.Green, Kuminga, McGee,

Warriors get Wood, THJ

Mavs get Siakam

2025 is still blocked. NY would have to remove protections on the 2023 pick and that will probably cost the Mavs another 2nd round pick (not sure if they still have one).

I have decided he might just trade Luka and sell the team.

I didn't want to trade a 1st for Kyrie, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. They were always going to trade their future picks to put talent around Luka. I expect them to deal the 2027 pick as well (Bojan?). They may even move the 2025 pick if they can unprotect 2023.

The kind of mindset that lead to the invention of the Stepien rule.

Maybe, maybe not..Let's see how long he's on his best behavior. Taking bets it won't be long.

Okay.  Bullock for Reddish, Archidiachino + Mavs 2023 back (at this point it's in the mid 20's)

Only if it fails.  I'm not saying it's 100% that it'll be perfect, nor is it that it's 100% to fail.

Going back 42 years to 1980, only 3 teams have won with a single superstar and supporting pieces: 1993-94 Rockets, 2010-11 Mavericks, and 2020-21 Bucks.  That means the the other 39 champions (or 93%) had at least 2 superstars.  The only model we could strive for with just Luka as the superstar is the Bucks.  There aren't Holliday, Lopez, or Middleton players available.

So....  we go with the 93% and get at least 2 superstars.  Like it or not, this is our only way to a championship.

Right?  Bunch of Debbie Downers.

Mavs...  love em or leave em.  Life's too short to be this negative about anything.

I have a question: Is Bron´s contract for next year guaranteed? Cause it better be.

He gave up money to contend for titles in Miami. What´s stopping him from doing the same in the summer? He´s a 39 year old billionaire. What does he care about another $40M. Just opt out, sign a minimum deal and Kyrie can get the money from the franchise he wanted to play for all along.

My dude, I'm all about a second star. I've been pushing back against this "Luka and his merry men" crap all year. Right there with you.

The thing is, a "superstar" who isn't interested in helping a team succeed (and doesn't even really believe in the concept of team, honestly) isn't going to have the kind of positive impact you're envisioning. He's VERY likely to have the same level of NEGATIVE impact he has had for the past 6 years on his last two teams. That's not a small sample size. We know who he is, because he keeps showing us, proudly.

There will come a time when everyone reading this board today realizes in their hearts that the team would've been better off with DFS than they will be with Irving. It might not happen in a week, but it will certainly be clear before this time next year. Mark this post so you can quote me. I am not wrong about this.

And when you factor in the UNPROTECTED 2029 pick, which I now believe (because of this trade, ironically) WILL be coming from a Luka-less Mavs team and possibly the single most value asset in the league that year (Irving won't even be in the NBA by then, I bet) you will all finally understand how stupid this decision was.

I think the only 2nd round pick the Mavs have left is 2025. The rest from 2023-2029 have all been shipped off. I admire their dedication to this noble cause. #onemoretrade

Is Toppin ready for 32mpg?  If he is, you send whatever we have left for Toppin, Reddish, and Quickley.

That seems reasonable. We need to keep feeding the Knicks assets, so they have something to trade for Luka in 12 months. Big Grin

Toke a bowl.  It's not as bad as all that.  Worst care scenario as you lay it out has as much chance of happening as perfection.

Right. After his last two stops in Boston and Brooklyn, what makes people suddenly think he's going to have a attitude adjustment?  He screwed KD, and his other teammates, what makes you think he won't do the same here? Kidd? Your reputation precedes you.

Kyrie is pretty talented (or lucky) at finding himself on different teams with generational talents and then asking out of the situation.  Maybe you give him a pass but the KD pairing was by his own design.
