pretty sure DanS regrets it
I liked the idea at the time as a reasonable addition of talent at a very reasonable price. I think it was all but done and Indy outbid us. At the time of the deal (6/20), I don't recall we (the board) knowing Kemba was a no-go yet. So, it was hard to reconcile us making that offer while also having room for Walker.
As the summer played out and we remained an over-the-cap team, trading for Warren wouldn't have made any difference to the rest of our moves. Warren fit into the TPE amount we still have available today. BTW, who was that guy who brought up (on several occasions) that we might operate over the cap? Oh yeah, I remember now.
John Hollinger has an EXCELLENT article up on The Athletic that looks at why this might be a quite TDL https://theathletic.com/1452678/2019/12/...-be-a-dud/
After reading that, I might start sniffing around the Warriors (Looney) or look to be a facilitator of some big deal Portland does for Love that gets us something young for taking on some salary to make the deal work while also getting Portland below the tax.
