I think the problem is, you can't really choose when the opportunity happens. If it is this offseason, you go for it. If (for example) Beal says he wants to be traded to Dallas, you pull the trigger, not ask him to wait till 2023.
Besides, with each passing year Mavs will be more desperate and every seller will know that - prices will go up.
