GAME 7: ORL (2-6) @ DAL (5-2) | 107-106 win
https://twitter.com/dallasmavs/status/11...4242629632

This is about as accurate a shot as possible.  Way to go DFS.

That was also very THJ type of shot. If he missed (and there was some 67 % chance that he would), we would be reading much more different comments here :-)

Other than that, it was a key shot, so good job

Hardaway has actually been a pleasant surprise for me this season and a relative bright spot, having made some sizable contributions in some key wins thus far, but I think that’s mostly due to my extremely low expectations going into the season.

If you think he’s had bad shooting selection this season ... you shoulda seen him in NY the last few years. THJ hasn’t attempted this few attempts from the field since he played for the Hawks. His shot selection, as bad as it may seem, could be MUCH worse.

Did anyone who watched that game think the Magic looked tired? Seems to me that too many overstate the impact of back to backs (especially this early in the season) and are lulled into a false sense of complacency.

First game I missed this seasons. Just watched the highlights and reread the last 6 pages of the gamethread. Sounds like an ugly game but a win is a win.
Any reason why Barea played more minutes than Curry, Wright and Brunson outside of them having a bad night?

Rick said he wanted a spark.  Brunson was chucking.  Wright and Curry were not horrible but seemed mia.  You have to watch all the turnovers and Orlando jumping the passing lanes to get a feel for the ugliness.  Plus from my perspective, the Mavs had trouble catching passes and losing their dribble in traffic.  Didn't seem focused, especially in the first half.

Curry started the game and actually played quite well. His benching was inexplicable to me.

Brunson is DEEP in a shooting slump (40/30/50 club) and isn't playmaking all that well. His benching made total sense to me.

Wright was pretty invisible and had a team worst -10 for the night. I didn't think he did anything terrible and I think when you give him minutes he eventually rewards you with some good hustle plays and cuts to the basket.

Barea playing was an attempt to snap the team out of a general malaise. It worked in the sense that he played with energy, but it didn't work in that it did not get the team playing cohesively. He played total hero-ball and if he hadn't hit his shots at an insane rate would have caused a loss. He took the ball out of Luka's hands and totally stagnated the team ball and offensive flow.

Why not? THJ is younger than Curry and same age as Wright. I agree Brunson needs way more minutes (along with JJax) but THJ has earned his minutes so far this season.
LOL WAT

He's shooting 37% from the field this season and he's a bad defender.  He's an offensive specialist with a PER of 10.  (although I'll grant he had a couple of huge defensive plays tonight)  He's one of the most garbage players in the league.

His last few games have been solid and positive from a +/- standpoint. So yes he has earned his minutes; trust me, I want him gone as much as anybody else but he's outplayed those other guys except for maybe Wright to an extent. If he can keep it up, I think you have to keep playing him.

It's still early in the season so we'll see how things unfold. His %'s in ATL were ideal; if we can get that production out of him it's a huge swing.

Not saying THJ is a keeper but don't see what's so special about Wright or Seth as long term pieces either.

A win is a win. Now let’s hope the mavs feed Porzingis all game vs Knicks. Got a feeling he will go off and get out of this shooting slump.

I think the Mavs want (and need) a dribble-drive player like Barea to be able to take the ball out of Luka’s hands and create offense for a few minutes here and there.

It can’t be barea longterm tho due to his age and Achilles but those things didn’t stop him tonite! Once again, Barea was injected unexpectedly into the game against a team from Florida and the Mavs came out on top, as is tradition.

H
e has been very disapointed with his performance, he wants to become better, he wants to get where he was. Still learning new system. Above all, he wants to win. All in all a very positive interview, no frustration about team or his role on the team.

That's what I take from it too.  When Luka is in a slump or getting a breather, and Mavs need a creator off the dribble who can get his own shot, JJB is probably the best guy for the job.    Team really needs a Jamal Crawford or JET.   THJ on paper should fill this role, and he hasn't been playing all that poorly per se, but he is just not that talented off the dribble.

Here's a sign of how well the season is going: The bar has been raised inside of the game thread! In recent years we devolved into complaining that Rick doesn't coach like we would coach and into kicking the whipping boy players in all the losses. This season, we jump on Rick and the whipping boys in a win where Orlando was good enough defensively to knock us off our game a bit; Orlando finally had a bit of a market correction on their shooting; but the Mavs were able to pull out a win.

In the past few years, this would have been a loss.

Main thing I take away from this game is Orlando is a lot better than I give them credit for. A very long and athletic team and can play some really high level defense. Flawed in that they really don't have creative scorer, as demonstated by having to resort to their center shooting a long range 3 on a possession with the game on the line. Basically, we have Luka and they don't.
