I don't want the Mavs to lose a pick, if the Mavs needed to trade the pick, ask for a pick swap if possible. Although late firsts and seconds are likely long shots, you'll never know if you'd get a Josh Howard in the late first or a Brunson in the second round.
IMHO, in this draft, more than any other in seasons' past, a player can go from pick 20ish from one board to a late second round, or a player projected to be at the early second round and then undrafted in another board.
It's just too pretty jerky. Because of this, a trade down at this draft wouldn't be so bad.
Having said that, I'd trade up for Dyson Daniels if the Mavs feel there's an increasing possibility JB isn't back. I would love Eason or mark Williams, but I'm okay staying put and not exerting too much effort to trade up for either.
My somewhat realistic picks at 26:
1. Ousmane Dieng - IMHo, there are lots of projects with high potential in the draft, but this kid, although he still is a bit of a project -- is more advance than most. 6''9" ball handler/secondary playmaker next to Luka? YES please.
2. Walker Kessler - If anything, he'll help in the regular season, he should provide the Mavs with a different look. He'd be Gobert-lite.
3. Nikola Jovic - probably won't make it to 26, but if he is there you take him and think about his defense later.
4. Jaylin Williams - Maybe a stretch to get him at 26. But he is a definite big guy, more switchable than others, provides a unique way of playing defense but can very well fit the Mavs style of play.
Trade Down to the early second round:
1. EJ Liddell - Really just undersized. Will have to bring his A game every night to compensate and that's going to limit his career.
2. Ismael Kamagate - Unicorn defensively, this guy can probably guard in space more than most bigs, probably won't develop an offensive game though, but as a second round pick? That's okay, unless the guy after him turns out to be another Brunson.
3. Jake LaRavia - The Maxi of small forwards (I hope)
4. Christian Koloko - Not going to excite me, but I can see he can help, most likely better than DP could
Trade Down to mid-to late second round:
John Butler
Leonard Miller
Possible undrafted pickups:
Jordan Hall
Yannick Nzosa
Alondes Williams
Keon Ellis
Kai Sotto
Gabriele Procida
