I have a (maybe stupid) question about draft picks.
To explain:
OKC has stockpiled a TON of draft picks over the next few years:
2022 - 3x 1st & 2x 2nd
2023 - 4x 1st & 4x 2nd
2024 - 3x 1st & 6x 2nd
2025 - 4x 1st & 8x 2nd
Which is waaaay more than they can absorb without basically turning over the team yearly.
My question is, if OKC trades a pick, does it have to be for another pick and/or warm body? I'm wondering if Presti could simply auction off one of his picks to the highest bidder? Could LAL come in and offer, say $10MM, for a pick just outside the lottery? I have no idea if that's even a realistic price for the pick. Is there a way to value the picks other than the rookie scale for the pick sequence? What about 2nd round picks (no rookie scale for them)?
I think I've heard of NFL teams buying picks before, but don't recall anything similar in the NBA.
