Edey is an interesting prospect. Easily a first round pick ten years ago. As you mentioned most likely a 2nd round pick in the current NBA. A solid option if the Mavs want to replace Boban with a younger version of himself.
Koloko is another skinny shot blocker with incredible measurements. Feels like a few years ago he would have been a rarity but these days we are seeing at least 2-3 players with a similar body type in each draft class. Haven´t seen enough of him to have a strong opinion so I trust your knowledge. Can he move his feet on the perimeter? Is he more than just a garbage man on offense?
My favorite bigmen prospect is out of reach for the Mavs Already mentioned him a few posts ago. Jalen Duren is not only by far the most athletic big in the draft. He is also the youngest. Just turned 18 and is build like a young David Robinson. For comparisation...Koloko is nearly 3 1/2 years older.
From a Mavs perspective it is probably futile to talk about bigs as long as they haven´t figured out which way they want to go with the roster. Is KP a center?
Do they want to keep KP? What about the current platoon squad (Powell, Boban, Moses, WCS, maybe Chriss). Mavs would need to clean up the front court rotation if they want to use a first round pick on a big.
I haven't seen much of Duran or Memphis, but Memphis looks like a mess. I agree though he will probably be out of our range..at least I hope.
Yeah, i am not sure Edey moves well enough for todays game. Although he has really nice touch with both hands and has only played basketball for a few years. Someone to watch as the year goes on.
I haven't seen a game with Koloko yet either....just watched highlights. But he just looks like a low cost defender/rim runner to be your backup center.
Mike Schmitz seems higher on Yannick Nzosa, but others have backed off him. He is young as well but really raw on offense.
My take on the center position, is not to overpay unless you find a really special, unique player. I think KP is going to finish games at the 5. So find a guy who fits what you want. If you want a defender/rim runner those guys are all over the place. Maybe it is eventually Moses Brown. Or maybe someone else. Don't get caught paying 15 million for that....especially if KP is on the team. Use your resources on a wing (SF/PF) who does things we currently don't have. Just my opinion though.
