I believe the state income tax issue is one that we Texans often over value.
One reason I think this is that the Mavs consistently whiff in free agency despite this supposed advantage.
Another reason I think this is that state income tax is only part of the compensation equation. Aside from endorsement deals there are other things like property taxes. I just left Texas for a state with income tax. I come out ahead though because my property taxes dropped to almost zero. There are parts of Texas where they get close to 5%.
Moral of the story is, the govt gets your money one way or another.
