I'm not criticizing what he said recently to try to scare NY away from moving mountains in order to make the offer.
I'm criticizing his (and Harrison's) poor decision to risk it at all by not trading him at the deadline. Back then, I assumed this signaled that they were willing to spend what it would take, and by that I mean what it would take. I didn't know then that they had an upper limit in mind, but obviously they did, and I think we're seeing now why it would've been more prudent to pick the more risk averse path.
I will admit that I see validity in the POV offered by @"F Gump" yesterday, however, that getting to the WCF comes with side benefits. The rest of the roster learning what it takes to win playoff games, stay healthy deep into the postseason, dig a little deeper competitively each day, deal with the added press and pressure, etc. I think that's a strong point, and they very likely don't accomplish that without Brunson in the mix down the stretch.
But, that honestly just makes me wish Cuban would cut the check, tbh. I know it's not my money, and ordinarily I try to be understanding of how owners try to approach their governorships financially. In this case, the combination of letting the deadline go by and then all the things the entire organization has been saying get my hopes up, I suppose.
