To be honest, I got worried when Zach Lowe and Tim Mac both said that Dallas never formally offered Jalen a contract this summer. This was my fear. I understand it is not a simple offer a contract/dont offer a contract. Mac reported Dallas wanted to maintain flexibility in case a trade came up. This doesn't give me good feelings Dallas has been working behind the scenes building trust with Jalen and his team.
Maybe Jalen would have turned down that trade right away and bet on himself. But 13-14 million $ on a 4 year contract with a player option would have been life changing money for him. If he would have gotten hurt, there is no guarantee that 13-14 million would be available for him this offseason.
If I was the GM, I would have had that offer to him on the first day I could. Maybe he turns it down, but it is really disappointing to me that a formal offer was never submitted. I mentioned earlier the new front office seems to be really deliberate. That can be a good or bad thing. A lot depends on the results. This is one area that I feel was a miss.
