I think the playoff run bumped Jalen's asking price up a little. I think it is still probably north of 20 per year, but south of 25 million. 22 million would be fine. If it gets above 25, that is a little concerning. Mavs need to pay it though.

A 5/125 deal would look something like: Year 1 - 22.5 M (Age 26) Year 2 - 23.6 M (Age 27) Year 3 - 24.8 M (Age 28) Year 4 - 26.1 M (Age 29) Year 5 - 27.4 M (Age 30)

From a fan standpoint, I definitely want Jalen to stay. But from a practical point-of-view, I think he will (and should) take the best offer.
*but* if I was in his camp I would definitely tell him not go to New York. After everything New York gave up in this draft to clear the space to sign him, anything less than an all-star season and advancing out of the first round will result in him being crucified by the New York media and fanbase.

In the end I think the cap part of NY trades on draft night is over exaggerated. They received a bunch of picks for their #11 and dumped Kemba, who had no future with Knicks or trade value anyway, in the process.

Between the Rose’s, dad on staff, Knicks punting the draft to clear cap space…just a ton of smoke that points to Brunson and NY.
I am convinced the Mavs are gearing up for the fight though. If JB was going to NY no matter what then surely Dallas engages on SnT talks. The fact NY is having to do all of this tells me Mavs aren’t playing ball and are ready to fight it out. The biggest winner in all this is JB and I’m happy for him because he has earned it. With no real insight I’d call it 60/40 Mavs right now. Hopefully when FA opens the vibes are immaculate and JB stays in Dallas

I'm sure they believe they have a chance, but when push comes to shove, USA wins that battle every time if they had to focus. Mavs are in the driver seat. As long as they aren't drunk this should end with a 12:01 am signing of Brunson and we all move on and laugh at the Knicks draft moves tonight.

As I've said before, IMO the only person who can screw this up is Mark Cuban. Brunson is a winner, and by all indications he wants to be here. I'm not worried about what the dumbass Knicks are doing, the only person who worries me is Cuban.

The Brunson news really bums me out. Now the next week or so is going to be stressful. I was hoping for a less stressful time while just looking at tax MLE guys.
I am sure Brunson is the focus. Couldn't it be argued that guys like Irving, Beal, Anfernee Simons, Lavine, etc may be the smarter direction? Can they open up enough space for those guys? For instance, I can understand making all these moves if you can clear money for Beal. Beal salary is scary but he has some star power. If they could get Beal without gutting the team with players and picks, that could be interesting. Although it appears Brunson is the #1 focus for now. Strike out on that and do the same with flat earth, strike out and go to the next player. The main thing is they strike out on JB.
